About L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI): Established in 1987, L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for P Read morerevention of Blindness, is a comprehensive eye health facility. LVPEI has served over 30.64 million (3 crore 64 lakh people), over 50% of them entirely free of cost, irrespective of the complexity of care needed. Mission: LVPEI’s mission is to be a centre of excellence in Eye care services, basic and clinical research into eye diseases and vision-threatening conditions, training, product development, and rehabilitation for those with incurable visual disability, with a focus on extending equitable and efficient Eye care to underserved populations in the developing world. Vision: To create excellent and equitable Eye care systems that reach all those in need. LVPEI focuses on economically disadvantaged groups in rural and urban geographies and extends its services to them through its network of satellite clinics and rural affiliates. The LVPEI network comprises a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Hyderabad, 3 tertiary centres in Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, 4 urban city centres, 20 secondary and 206 primary care centres that cover the remotest rural areas in the four states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Karnataka. The Institute's innovative and comprehensive approach to community eye health, the LVPEI Eye Health Pyramid, has been adopted as a model by the Government of India and by other developing countries. Equipped with cutting-edge technology and spearheaded by distinguished professionals in the field of Eye care, LVPEI’s vision is to provide equitable and efficient Eye care to all sections of society. Since establishment in 1987 LVPEI has: Served over 30.64 million people with more than 50% services provided free of cost, regardless of complexity. Seen over 16.28 million outpatients and conducted over 1.68 million surgeries. Performed over 1853 stem cell based procedures. Provided direct service to over 11,816 villages through secondary and primary care. Helped rehabilitate over 0.186 million persons with irreversible blindness or low vision. Harvested over 105,448 donor corneas, and transplanted over 58,957 of them to needy patients. Trained 26,179 eye care professionals from India and abroad. Community Eye Care
LVPEI's Community Outreach Program, initiated under GPR ICARE, aims to provide high-quality, sustainable eye care to underserved regions and economically disadvantaged populations. Additionally, the program undertakes operational research to optimize the delivery of eye care services. Through its efforts, LVPEI ensures accessible, efficient, and impactful eye care, improving vision health in communities across India and beyond.

Vision Enhancement and Rehabilitation
The L V Prasad Eye Institute’s Vision Rehabilitation Program empowers individuals with low vision and blindness by enhancing their functional abilities and integrating them into society. Combining daily living skills, vocational training, and the use of low vision devices, the program fosters independence and confidence. Services include comprehensive assessments, device prescriptions, counseling, and community-based rehabilitation for those unable to visit the centers. Over 35 years, LVPEI has rehabilitated over 191,325 individuals across all age groups, breaking societal myths and improving quality of life through innovative and inclusive care.
