Azim Premji Foundation

In the early 2000s, the Azim Premji Foundation began its mission to improve Government school education in India. Recognizing the need for qualified professionals in the social sector, Azim Premji University was established in 2010. It offers postgraduate degrees in Education, Development, Economics, Public Health, and Law and Development, as well as undergraduate degrees in various fields. The university conducts numerous professional courses, workshops, and research activities. Over 3314 graduates have made impactful contributions to the social sector, supported by a dedicated faculty. The university's research centre collaborates on critical questions about India's future, aligning with its vision of a just and equitable society.

The Foundation expanded its mission in 2014 to provide financial support through multi-year grants to not-for-profit organisations (NPOs) dedicated to helping disadvantaged groups. These include the urban poor, people with disabilities, survivors of gender violence, at-risk adolescents, children in need of care, marginal farmers, and tribal communities. The grants offer immediate assistance, access to essential services, and the promise of a dignified future for these vulnerable populations. The Philanthropy also collaborates with state Governments and NPOs to address humanitarian and development challenges, focusing on governance. This includes initiatives like reducing child malnutrition, providing legal support, strengthening democratic institutions, and improving livelihoods for small farmers. The grants enhance stakeholder capacity, strengthen Government service delivery, and ensure immediate care and services.

In its field operations, the organisation strives to enhance the quality of education in public schools, particularly in underprivileged regions of India. It focuses on strengthening the skills of Government school teachers, school leaders, and education stakeholders, aiming to improve teaching and learning. The organisation operates through District Institutes and Teacher Learning Centres, providing resources and support to educators. Additionally, it runs Azim Premji Schools in various states, emphasizing quality education and constitutional values. Their work encompasses teacher training, curriculum development, and research to enhance the educational landscape, with a special focus on early childhood education.
