Programs
-
Adoptions and Release Programme
On the complete recovery of animals from their injuries or sicknesses, CARE releases them back to where they were found in the case of community animals.
In case the animal is an abandoned pet, it is handed over to the adoption unit to be socialised and made ready for adoption. The pet parents are amply counselled and screened before handing over the animal to them and regular follow-ups are conducted to ensure that the animal is being provided care and a good life.
-
Humane Education and Awareness Programme
In addition to animal rehabilitation and rescue initiatives, CARE also includes awareness generation in its efforts. It runs two initiatives towards this end namely, The Young Angels Programme and Charlie’s Pack.
The former is being conducted in partnership with Mars International Pvt. Ltd and includes a visit by CARE’s education officer to local schools, informing the children of animal welfare and sensitising them towards peaceful co-existence with community animals.
The latter programme sees school children visiting its animal shelters on a pre-agreed weekly or monthly basis and are involved in various activities beneficial to the welfare of animals.
-
Canine & Feline Therapy Programmes
The shelter also presents its animals, especially dogs with gentle behaviour, as therapy dogs. These dogs are allowed to mingle with differently abled children who in turn gain social confidence with such interactions and meetings. The dogs receive special training as canine therapists for this purpose.
-
Animal Rescue Programme
With three ambulances under its disposal, CARE carries out rescue operations to pick up animals found to be in misery and brings them back to its centres to be treated appropriately.
It also responds to rescuers who bring sick, hurt and neglected animals to the centre and admits them into the shelter for further treatment.
-
Treatment and Rehabilitation Programme
The treatment and rehabilitation programme comes into effect post first aid and emergency care of the animal as soon as it reaches the centre.
The animal is shifted to the treatment section to heal under the constant care of veterinary doctors. Physiotherapy and laser therapy are employed as applicable, to enable the animal to heal faster besides being provided with a nutritious and protein-rich diet.
