Programs
-
Institutional Placement Programme
For children whose mothers feel that their being away from the traumatizing experience of red-light areas would do them good, the organisation runs an institutional placement programme. This programme after presenting the child’s case to the Child Welfare Committee, a semi-judicial body set up by the Juvenile Justice Act, is placed in long-term residential care in relevant Government facilities.
Its team keeps in constant touch with the residential institution actively preparing plans for rehabilitation and future course of action beneficial to the child.
-
Naunihal – Children’s Home for Girls
The Naunihal Children’s home was started to cater exclusively to girls, whom the organisation intended to keep away from the unfavourable influences of red-light areas. Currently, it also caters to victims of violence and abuse. This home falls under the control of the Child Welfare Committee and thus every admission and discharge into the home is certified by the Committee. Naunihal provides a safe space and a conducive environment to the girls for their overall favourable development.
-
Post Rescue Operation
In light of legal recommendations, every minor victim of commercial sexual exploitation is to be considered a child in need of protection and care. The organisation takes up rehabilitation of the children it rescues by presenting their cases to Child Welfare Committees, facilitating social investigations, psycho-social counselling, legal interventions, preparing individual care plans and facilitating their reintegration into society.
-
Night Care Centres
Prerana operates night care centres in and around red-light areas to keep the children of sex workers away and protected at night. The centres provide safe shelter, nutritious food, education support, hygienic sanitary facilities, play options and contribute to the children’s holistic development. It also provides opportunities for skill development and healthcare facilities to the children.
-
Educational Support Programme
It operates educational support programmes to help children learn academics. Its team regularly keeps in touch with the institutions where the children study, be it schools or colleges, to get updates on progress, which is also shared with the respective mothers.
Extra classes are conducted in the evenings by trained and qualified teachers while efforts are made to secure donations to financially support students who want to pursue higher education and professional degrees.
