Its treatment journey can be one of the most difficult phases for any family, both emotionally and financially. If it’s a child fighting such a dreadful disease,
then the experience becomes even more traumatic, and everyone and everything can seem to be lost. In such a situation, one can easily lose all hope and optimism in life.
Hence there can be no better way of ‘giving’ than to partner with a cause that brings hope and optimism back to such families by helping their children in the fight against cancer.
St. Judes India’s innovative model of providing a holistic support environment for cancer treatment to kids, irrespective of their economic status, is both commendable
and inspiring.The intent and ability to give a home away from home where kids get the best treatment and cope with such a painful illness is remarkable. We believe that every child should be brought up in an environment where they feel appreciated, nourished, and safe. We applaud your work and hope that you continue creating beautiful memories for these kids.Being a part of such honourable work is motivation to support St. Judes itself. They enthusiastically updated us on the great vision to establish childcare centres for children across India during the London dinner. Soon after, Kim and I found ourselves opening the Mumbai ChildCare Centre at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. We fell immediately in love with the children, who welcomed us with beautiful hospitality and happiness. It was as though a lifeline had been thrown to them in a world that was in constant chaos. Over the years, this was followed by many other visits across India, with the last one being the Kolkata Centre. During each visit, we felt the warmth and care of the children, families and staff with whom we shared moments Each time we left, we were more determined to
ensure that we built a world where nobody was left behind.
These visits kept us grounded and helped remind us of how lucky we were simply
because we won the lottery ticket of life by being born in different circumstances.
No child deserves to go untreated. Seeing these centres reinforced our belief that
if we find ourselves in a situation to help, it is our duty to do so. Nihal and Shyama
certainly understand and live this as an example for us all. What makes the St. Judes
Centres so unique is the holistic approach that not only focuses on providing muchneeded housing during treatment to increase chances of success but also focuses on
other elements such as building self-esteem, driving habit change, especially around
hygiene, teaching new skills and ultimately providing better livelihoods. This could only
be possible thanks to the incredible work of the dedicated staff and volunteers who,
next to the children and parents, are the real unsung heroes in this story.
Thanks to Nihal and Shyama for their vision and persistence. Thanks to the staff,
volunteers and donors who make it work. And thanks to the children for simply being
who they are, the manifestation of love and perfectness. Their smiles are infectious, and
so is their generosity. It indeed makes us feel humble. We are proud to be associated in
a small and humble way.

An HDFC Initiative- HDFC’s journey with St Judes India has been for close to a decade, and only grown stronger with time and the advent of the HT Parekh Foundation. St Judes provides the much needed institutionalised support to underprivileged children fighting
cancer, making their and their caregivers’ long and arduous journey, a lot easier along the way. They have mastered the model of standardisation in running and managing
their centres at scale, without compromising on the quality of care. Each St Judes centre is a hygienic and vibrant space filled with positivity, hope and compassion for the children residing there temporarily. The whole hearted dedication and passion of the entire team at St Judes, right from the Board to the centre staff and the central administration team to help with the growing spread of cancer amongst children in our country. On your 15th
anniversary, I take this opportunity alongwith the management of HDFC and my team at the Foundation, to wish you the very best in all your future endeavors.
