ICECD was established in 1986 by experts in the fields of entrepreneurship, economics, technology, behavioral science, and small industries management Read more, with a vision to facilitate the socio-economic and political empowerment of women and men of a wide cross-section of society. Based in Ahmedabad, ICECD has been at the vanguard of small and micro-enterprise development amongst varying target groups in rural areas, tribal areas, and urban slums all over India and over 55 developing countries having reached out to over 1 million deprived people directly and indirectly. The Institute is a pioneer in developing a unique need-based training module for developing entrepreneurial capability amongst women, young adults, and youth to make them capable of creating and running their micro-small-medium businesses. The Centre offers various business development services, skill development programs, training, research, and capacity development support to a large number of National and International organizations. Since its inception, ICECD has trained and developed more than 1150 organizations and 5500 facilitators in India and close to 850 organizations and 4500 facilitators in the international arena along with having imparted entrepreneurship training directly to over 2 lakh persons. Having worked extensively in Asia-Pacific, African, and Caribbean countries, the United Nations ESCAP has recognized ICECD as a Centre for Excellence.
Action
ICECD's major interventions have been in entrepreneurship development, SME development, employment creation through entrepreneurship and skills training, micro-credit management, and economic empowerment among youth, women, and disadvantaged groups in urban, rural, and tribal populations.

ICECD has developed over 200,000 entrepreneurs worldwide, with 100,000 in India, who have made investments totaling 1500 million.

ICECD's vision is to create an environment with equal rights and opportunities for women and men in all fields, while its mission is to create an 'Entrepreneurial Society' by increasing access to productive resources for needy populations and facilitating their economic, social, and political empowerment.
Programs

Digital literacy
ICECD's Digital Literacy program is designed to introduce rural communities to computers and basic computer skills, addressing the need for technological literacy in an increasingly digital world. This initiative aims to empower rural youth, particularly students in 8th, 9th, and 10th grades, with capacity-building and training programs using digital resources. Additionally, local teachers are trained as part of the program to ensure the sustainability and expansion of digital literacy initiatives across 50 villages/schools in the future.
