United Way of Hyderabad(UWH) works in the city of Hyderabad, to enable access to education, facilitate income stability and provide healthcare to marg Read moreinalized sections of society in the city. It is part of United Way, an international non-profit organisation committed to empowering the poor and downtrodden all over the world. It involves the community, its volunteers and institutions including Governments, NGO’s and corporates to come together and work for the betterment of underprivileged people.
Action
United Way of Hyderabad focuses on building community-based and community-led solutions that strengthen the foundations of a good life through education, financial stability, and health.
Cause Area
Impact
United Way of Hyderabad had mobilised more than 71,250 volunteers, impacting over 21,60,000 lives, partnering with 65 corporates and over 200 NGOs mobilising funds to the tune of Rs. 175 Crores.

The vision is to create a world where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability, and healthy lives, while the mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities to create long-term social change and advance towards common good.
Programs

Environment Programmes
Though UWH’s core focus is on education, income stability and health, it also considers the environment an important part of its efforts. Its wake the lake programme concentrates on saving lakes around Hyderabad from destruction by connecting with Government agencies and mobilizing community voluntary action in cleaning and maintaining these lakes to ensure their survival.
It undertakes to green tracts of land through the Miyawaki method of forestation. It partnered with CGI India under the latter's CSR initiative and the Hyderabad University, to plant saplings in dry and unused land rejuvenating the environment in the process.

Education Programmes
UWH through its bornlearning initiative provides preschool preparation in Government preschools. It provides enabling infrastructure and learning materials to children aged three to six besides empowering pregnant mothers and strengthening Anganwadi’s. It promotes early detection of disabilities and paves way for appropriate interventions.
Its STEMtastic programme provisions for digital facilities and better teaching in Government schools to encourage students, especially girls, to take up STEM subjects as their chosen subjects.
The Equip initiative focuses on building the capacity of community institutions and encourages participation of people in school management committees, primary health centres, self-help groups, Anganwadi’s and Panchayati raj institutions.

Health and Well-Being Programmes
UWH runs the Kreeda programme which facilitates Government school children to pursue physical fitness, through improving infrastructure. It supports the building of facilities like sports complexes, playgrounds, cricket and basketball courts and running tracks in Government schools besides organising competitions and sports events.
Its Adara initiative seeks to provide complete care to the elderly, children and injured and sick animals. It joins hands with NGO’s working in this space to run care homes providing shelter, nutrition, medical care and also educational support where required.

Financial Stability Programmes
Hunar, UWH’s financial stability programme, aims to provide gainful livelihoods to marginalized people. Under this programme, UWH strives to identify and connect to poor people, coach them in employable skills, impart life skills and also especially focus on delivering technical skills to women to enable them to achieve a decent livelihood and income.
Milestones & Track Record
In its first five years, United Way of Hyderabad raised INR 8.7 Cr, partnered with 17 corporates and 44 NGO partners, and touched over 46,000 lives through various initiatives in education, healthcare, and livelihood.
