A social activist, Mr. M.Anbarasan, after having seen the poor plight of the area and the deplorable condition of its people, started a non-government voluntary organization in the year 1995 to improve the miserable condition of the people. Child labour, unemployment, illiteracy, exploitation and extreme poverty were the critical issues which stood in front of this organization as challenges in the area. Makkal Villipunarvu Kalvi Sangam (MVKS) was registered in the year 1996 as a society under Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act 1975, and recognized under 12 A (A) and 80 G (V) of the income tax and also registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs under 6(1) (A) of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 1976. From the beginning, MVKS has been implementing socio-economic development programs such as group formation, cluster level federations, small savings, skill training, micro credit support, promotion of human rights, promotion of educational support to poor student, awareness on health issues like HIV/AIDS, dengue and swine fever, environmental awareness and tree plantation.
