Issue

Abuses against women and children are tackled, child marriage and child labor system are prevented, specially abled assisted in their livelihood and hill tribes educated about the legal provisions available for getting their forest land rights.


Action

It is helping women through a revolving fund for income generation activities of women SHG members (around 2000 in 130 groups). It is also advocating for effective functioning of Internal Complaints Committees and District level Local Committees for working women's safety. For improving children's academic standard, it is organizing evening tuition centres at 8 places covering more than 300 students. Yoga, sports and periodical health check ups are conducted in these centres. The children are told about their safety, whom to report in case of abuses and to handle internet safely. The persons with disabilities are helped in getting all facilities from the Government agencies, the community is oriented on handling the specially abled, advocacy is conducted for an inclusive environment and the poor among the specially abled are helped for their livelihood opportunities. The hill tribes in Tamil Nadu are helped in getting rights over forest land where they live and cultivate, they are also assisted in getting all benefits from Government and oriented on selling the forest products at a better margin.

Impact

Loan assistance to the tune of around Rs. 20 crores arranged to 2000 women SHG members for their income generation and emergency needs, cumulatively. More than 10,000 students improved their academic standard, got scholarship help, and also hundreds of girl children vulnerable to abuses were saved. Around 1000 specially abled got Unique ID cards, train/bus passes, pension assistive devices from Government and 100 of them helped for their livelihood. Hill tribes got 10000 individual and 250 community rights titles in forest areas
