Join us in celebrating women and children from vulnerable communities in Mumbai’s slums—honoring their strength and resilience.
SNEHA’s interventions follow a continuum-of-care approach, addressing Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health. We work with women and children from birth to adulthood, breaking the cycle of poor health in vulnerable settlements across Mumbai. Our goal is to develop sustainable, community-led solutions that can be integrated into health and nutrition systems.
The Story:
SNEHA was founded by Dr. Armida Fernandez, who routinely cared for premature and underweight infants born into poverty. Deeply moved by the struggles of these women and their children, she witnessed challenges like child malnutrition, domestic violence, and inadequate healthcare access. Determined to create lasting change, Dr. Fernandez founded SNEHA in 1998.
Our Impact:
Between 2016 and 2024, SNEHA directly impacted over 406,000 women, children, and healthcare workers, reaching an indirect population of over 1.68 million across Mumbai and Maharashtra.
