Story

In January 2024, I attempted to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,895m high). Despite training for it for 4 months, I ended up not being able to summit. The uneven terrain triggered issues from an old ankle injury, and I had to abandon my summit bid after 4 days of strenuous hiking.

Well, I knew what I was getting into, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro is very hard.

What should not be that hard is for any child to get a good quality education that can set them up for a sustainable livelihood. No child should have to abandon their dreams to pursue a course or to skill themselves based on their interests and abilities.

Very sadly though, this is the reality for almost all children who come from under-privileged backgrounds. The difference in access to means and opportunity between children across different socio-economic groups is very stark, and truly unfortunate.

All children deserve access to good quality education. Bhumi has supported more than a 1,000 children with scholarships in the last year, enabling them to continue their education.

I have been running Bhumi's scholarship program for a year now, and see first hand the change that education can bring to a child, their family, and society at large.

  • 3 girl students we supported till they finished UG were placed in an MNC - all three were first generation graduates, and are now supporting their families.
  • One of our scholars took up a volunteering opportunity to teach students at the Government school that she studied in. Her heartfelt note describing how the experience was so poignant for her, deeply moved all of us at Bhumi.
  • Our partners supported in training 7 of our scholars in Salesforce, giving them skills that greatly increase employability.

We are working hard to expand our support to children and youth with mentorship and skilling, to help them be job-ready.

This year, we'd like to reach 5,000 children.

Please support Bhumi in our effort to make quality education accessible to children from underprivileged backgrounds. Your contribution has the power to transform a child's life, and help families break the cycle of poverty. With your help, they can all conquer their personal Mt. Kilimanjaros.

Here's how your contribution can help:
