In Mandla district, a region facing severe economic hardships and low literacy rates, Mrida is making a profound impact. Only 51% of the population is literate, and for women, it’s a mere 42%. This community is grappling with widespread health issues like sickle cell anemia and malnutrition, substance abuse, and poverty, where families survive on an annual income of just ₹30,000 – 40,000. Education infrastructure is weak, teacher shortages persist, and Naxalite influence is growing. But amidst these challenges, hope rises.

Since 2016, Mrida has been working tirelessly to uplift tribal communities through education, sports, and skill development. Our holistic approach empowers children from the Gond and Baiga tribes to overcome these barriers, excel in life, and become community leaders.

Mrida’s Initiatives

• Narmada Valley Football Academy (NVFA): Providing pathways to excellence through sports, particularly football.
• Riverside Natural School & Hostel: Offering holistic education and a safe, nurturing environment for vulnerable children.
• Narmada Valley Avishkar Labs (NVAL): Empowering children with technology, coding, and career-oriented skills.
• Building Communities Around Football: Promoting awareness of tobacco use and menstruation stigma while organizing leagues and camps to keep children healthy and engaged.

Today, Mrida supports over 300 children directly and engages with 1,500 across 85 villages. Nearly half are girls who, despite their circumstances, have shown incredible resilience. Our football programs have led to two Subroto Cup victories, ₹4.5 lakhs in prize money and scholarships, national-level selections and recently leading the State of Madhya Pradesh into the National Football Champions gallery in the Sub Jr Tier 2 levels. These successes are not just about sports—they are about giving children a sense of self-worth, discipline, and hope for a better future.

Our technology programs are producing young coders who have won the CEL Hackathon for three years running. Our girls are not only athletes—they are leaders, coders, and the hope for future generations.

In contrast to their urban counterparts who often train on professional grounds and have access to state-of-the-art facilities, our young athletes practice on makeshift fields, and their computer labs lack modern technology. They only recently secured a leased line for better internet access.
