Story

Support Sanjaynagar's transformation from a slum settlement to a vibrant, safe and climate-resilient neighbourhood.

Imagine what it feels like to not have a stable, secure home..and to know you, and your children and your children’s children will never have one? In India today, it takes 7 generations to break the cycle of poverty and India’s housing crisis continues to keep generations in poverty. Much of the so-called affordable housing in India is poorly built, cramped, and located in areas lacking basic infrastructure like electricity, clean water, sewage systems, etc, and living in substandard conditions like these can put one’s mental and physical wellbeing at risk.

The housing crisis isn’t just a policy issue. It’s real. It affects families, futures, and daily lives. And solving it takes more than just systems or institutions.

It needs people - like you. When a small group of caring individuals comes together with a shared purpose, something powerful begins to grow.

A New Model for Affordable Housing: In Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, the residents of Sanjaynagar are proving that when a community is at the forefront of planning and decision-making, transformative change is possible. In partnership with Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation (AMC), Community Design Agency is implementing Ahmednagar’s first-ever in-situ slum redevelopment project, where 298 families will have access to dignified housing. We have already seen success - the first building is complete, offering 33 families a safe, secure, and vibrant place to call home. Now, we are raising funds for the second building—new homes for 24 more families.

The Sanjaynagar project is not just about constructing homes; it’s about setting a benchmark for how affordable housing should be envisioned—placing people, not just infrastructure, at its heart. The project is co-created through an inclusive participatory process, ensuring that residents have agency over their futures. Supported by a blended finance model, this initiative is designed to be both sustainable and scalable, demonstrating that equitable urban development is not just an ideal but an achievable reality.

So join us in transforming Sanjaynagar! Your contribution brings us closer to ensuring that more families can access housing that is not just affordable, but also resilient, inclusive, and deeply rooted in community. Donate today and become a part of reinventing affordable housing in India.
