“There are frail and elderly parents who have been beaten up by their own children and have been thrown out of their homes just because they are of no use anymore. I can’t let this happen to helpless seniors who are too weak to provide for themselves”, says Harsh Arora, founder, Sarthak Prayas, an NGO that has been leading the way in the rescue and rehabilitation of abandoned elderly.

The suffering of the abandoned elderly
“I have seen senior citizens eating from garbage, I have rescued many without even a stitch of clothing. There are so many elderly who have been kicked out of their own homes, the homeless they themselves built. And why? Just because they are of no use to their families anymore”, says Harsh as he talks about how elderly parents suffer after being discarded by their own.
Today Harsh’s Second Innings Home is providing over 20 elderly parents with safe shelter away from the horrors of street life. Sarthak Prayas takes care of all their needs and even provides them with end-to-end medical care. In addition to this, the NGO even provides monthly rations and medicines. Several elderly parents who are left in their homes have no one to take care of them.

The old and infirm are thrown out of the house by their own children. Such injustice is all too common in India and that's why Sarthak Prayas' work, to lovingly care for and provide a home for all the abandoned elderly we encounter, is so important.
Please take a look at some of our key accomplishments of the past financial year 24-25, provided to all 40 of our dear beneficiaries:
• Provided nutritious and healthy meals 3 times daily
• Milk and snacks were given every day
• Quarterly outings, also lunch and dinner outings
• Spiritual excursions
• We arranged to celebrate festivals to promote community spirit
• Medical camps for their regular checkups
• Entertainment through musical evenings

An enormous thank you from Sarthak Prayas for helping us achieve our goal of caring for the abandoned elderly wandering the streets of Delhi. Your support is crucial; together, we can give these men and women the life they should have lived.
The funds so graciously provided to us have been used for various purposes such as providing monthly food rations for our beneficiaries, routine medical check-ups, sponsoring outings, funeral rites, and specialized medical care for our beneficiaries.
