Support Government of Delhi in providing life-saving equipment for critical Covid patients

Campaign by GiveIndia

Story

MAKE DELHI BREATHE

As India battles, the second wave of Covid 19, the capital city of Delhi is reeling under tremendous pressure due to an acute shortage of oxygen supply. With a positivity rate of more than 30% and close to 25k active cases being reported every day, the National capital is operating on an SOS mode.

The acute shortage of oxygen supply has led to about 25 deaths in Sir Gangaram Hospital and 20 deaths in Covid critical care unit at Jaipur Golden Hospital, on Friday, 23rd April 2021. The healthcare staff had to manually ventilate the patients in ICU and emergency departments and despite several calls to authorities and suppliers, only marginal supply was received and that affected the patients in critical care.

The hospitals are now forced to deny admission to patients owing to this shortage and the crisis has forced some hospitals to knock on the doors of the Delhi High Court. While the court has ordered the Union Government of India to address the issue on a war footing but the crisis still looms.

The only formidable solution to this problem is to augment the oxygen infrastructure & supply to aid in the efforts made by the Government and health authorities in Delhi.

SaveLife Foundation is actively supporting the Government of Delhi in addressing this crucial need. We are supporting the Government of NCT in setting up and procuring critical equipment and infrastructure facilities to combat this problem.

-Oxygen generation plants in hospitals/Covid facility compounds in Delhi. A 5,000-litre capacity plant is being set up that can support 650 people per day.

-Oxygen concentrators, which use oxygen from the air and convert it to medical grade oxygen. A patient in need of a concentrator needs to be on it for 5-7 days. One oxygen concentrator costs ₹55,000.

-Oxygen cylinders that help a person in need of oxygen support for 5-7 days. The B-type (1,500L) oxygen cylinder costs ₹15,000 while the D-type (6,000L) costs ₹25,000.

-Refilling of oxygen cylinders, as manufacturing is restricted in certain states and transporting oxygen cylinders from one state to another requires specific vehicles which are not very widely available in the given situation. Refilling A B-type cylinder costs ₹800/refill and D-type costs ₹2,500/refill.

Providing life-saving equipment:

-Providing Bipaps which are also known as non-invasive ventilation. One Bipap costs approximately ₹60,000

-Providing ventilators which are priced at ₹5 lakh per item

-Setting up Covid care centers that cost in excess of ₹10 lakh, depending on the capacity and location

The increasing number of positive cases and fatalities, lack of life-saving equipment like oxygen cylinders, essential medicines, protective gear, etc are having a crumbling effect on Delhi's healthcare infrastructure.

But YOU can make a difference by supporting our efforts to bail Delhi out of this massive healthcare crisis. It is not just a contribution but a movement to MAKE DELHI BREATHE.

In this hour of acute healthcare calamity, we all need to stand united to help save the lives of critical patients, healthcare workers and set up Covid care centers with life-saving equipment.
