These programs focus on training job seekers for high-quality employment in industries with strong labor demand and career growth opportunities.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skill development is a key focus in many CSR portfolios, both in India as well as globally, as standalone initiatives or integrated into larger programs.<\/span><\/p><ul><li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In FY23, <\/span><b>9% of India&#8217;s total CSR<\/b> spending was dedicated to skill development<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> initiatives, marking a <i>49% increase<\/i> compared to FY22.<\/span><\/li><li aria-level=\"1\"><b>201 top CSR spenders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contributed <\/span><b>INR 2,010 crore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to 913 skill development projects in FY23.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b7186b0 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-parent\" It typically involves a combination of training, certification, and apprenticeship.<\/span>\n<ul>\n \t<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An eight-year study in Uganda assessed the impact of sector-focused vocational training and on-the-job practicals, revealing a <\/span><b>14-21% higher likelihood of employment, 19% longer employment periods, and 12% higher hourly wages<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><a style=\"font-weight: 400;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.econometricsociety.org\/publications\/econometrica\/2020\/11\/01\/tackling-youth-unemployment-evidence-labor-market-experiment\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ref<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The curriculum in both formal education as well as skill development programs in India must align with industry demands to ensure relevance, employability, and improved wage prospects. These components are referred to as wraparound services.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><ul><li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.povertyactionlab.org\/evaluation\/meet-your-future-effect-mentoring-ugandan-vocational-students-employment-and-earnings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022 J-PAL study in Uganda<\/a>\u00a0found that students who received mentorship and a small unconditional cash transfer at program completion had <\/span><b>27% higher labor market participation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, stayed in their first job <\/span><b>23% longer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>earned 18% more<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than non-mentored students.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mentorship program offers corporate employees from funding CSR companies a valuable opportunity to build closer relationships with program participants.
