These individuals live on far less than the World Bank\u2019s extreme poverty line of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/news\/factsheet\/2022\/05\/02\/fact-sheet-an-adjustment-to-global-poverty-lines\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$2.15 a day<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, often for generations, trapped in a cycle of low income and limited opportunities. They lack assets, skills, and supportive social networks, and they are often geographically isolated in rural areas with limited access to education, healthcare, and formal labor markets. These factors trap them in chronic poverty without stable opportunities for improvement. Globally, about <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/topic\/poverty\/overview\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">700 million people<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> live in such conditions, including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tasf.thenudge.org\/post\/usnews-2023-1-eliminating-ultra-poverty-in-india#:~:text=Of%20the%20200%20million%20households,estimated%2023%20Million%20in%20India.&amp;text=An%20ultra%2Dpoor%20household%20(also,no%20reliable%20access%20to%20food.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">23 million in India<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ce13efa e-con-full e-flex e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"ce13efa\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d4bf797 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"d4bf797\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5864eda elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5864eda\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Introducing the Graduation Approach\n<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6c2ec3d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6c2ec3d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bracupgi.org\/about-the-graduation-approach\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BRAC&#8217;s Graduation Approach<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, first piloted in Bangladesh in 2002, aims to address extreme poverty through a mix of interventions. By offering these in the right sequence, households can &#8220;graduate&#8221; from poverty to sustainable livelihoods. A 2007-2014 randomized control trial (RCT) showed significant results, including increased work among women, a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.povertyactionlab.org\/evaluation\/impact-one-transfer-assets-and-skills-occupational-choices-low-income-women-bangladesh\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">21% rise in annual earnings from livestock<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and higher monthly consumption and assets. Since 2009, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bracupgi.org\/about-the-graduation-approach\/#:~:text=Impact,reaching%20nearly%2014%20million%20people.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over 100 organizations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in more than 50 countries have adopted this approach, reaching nearly 14 million people.<\/span><\/p><p><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In India, the model has been in practice since 2006, with pilot programs funded by the Ford Foundation and implemented by non-profits like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bandhan.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bandhan Konnagar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These pilots led to successful outcomes, with 75-98% of participants graduating out of ultra-poverty. As a result, the model has been adopted by other non-profits and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.povertyactionlab.org\/blog\/12-13-23\/graduation-approach-updated-insights-and-best-practices-scale#:~:text=The%20Graduation%20approach%2C%20a%20leading,to%20address%20multiple%20constraints%20simultaneously.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State Livelihood Programs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, impacting around 100,000 households. In March 2024, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.povertyactionlab.org\/updates\/ministry-rural-development-partners-j-pal-south-asia-it-expands-samaveshi-aajeevika-across?lang=en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) partnered with J-PAL South Asia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a knowledge partner to further adapt the Graduation Approach to support rural women in achieving self-sufficiency.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5432b07 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5432b07\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What is the Graduation Approach?<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3f166c4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3f166c4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The graduation approach is based on <strong>4 core pillars<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/span><\/p><ol><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Social protection<\/strong> &#8211;
