While tree plantation has been a widely promoted solution for carbon sequestration, <\/span><b>its scalability and efficiency remain limited. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is time to also consider variants like agroforestry.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ad9e0a6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ad9e0a6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The Limitations of Traditional Tree Planting<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d0b0a1e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d0b0a1e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s forests currently hold a carbon stock of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fsi.nic.in\/uploads\/isfr2023\/isfr_book_eng-vol-1_2023.pdf\"><b>7 billion metric tons<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, sequestering approximately <\/span><b>703 million metric tons of CO\u2082 annually<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, according to the <\/span><b>India State of Forest Report<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, this sequestration remains <\/span><b>insufficient<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, covering only <\/span><b>32% of the country\u2019s annual CO\u2082 emissions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which stand at <\/span><b>2.2 billion metric tons<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The feasibility of large-scale afforestation as a climate solution becomes even more challenging when examined through sequestration potential per tree.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><b>USDA<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a single tree absorbs around <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usda.gov\/about-usda\/news\/blog\/power-one-tree-very-air-we-breathe#:~:text=According%20to%20the%20Arbor%20Day,and%20release%20oxygen%20in%20exchange.\"><b>22 kg of CO\u2082 per year<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. At this rate, <\/span><b>100 billion trees would need to be planted annually<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to offset India\u2019s current emissions. Beyond the sheer scale of plantation, the <\/span><b>long-term maintenance and survival of these trees pose significant logistical and financial challenges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, making afforestation alone an impractical standalone solution to India&#8217;s carbon mitigation strategy.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element
