“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. While Lalitha has also helped many women escape the clutches of being forced into sex work, the SPID is focused on rescuing children and giving them a better life.Sadly, many more children need to be rescued and need a loving home. I had even seen my friend’s 15-year-old sister and 70-year-old grandmother being forced to do sex work for the price of a cup of tea”, recalls Girish. “I started by merely feeding and teaching children of sex workers initially with the intention of giving them some respite from the horrors of life of abuse in red-light areas. The Magic Bus programme is one of the largest poverty alleviation programmes in India working with nearly 400,000 children and 9000 trained volunteer mentors in 22 States of the country. Magic Bus works with some of the world’s poorest children and young people, taking them from a childhood full of challenges to a life with meaningful livelihoods. Moreover, they equip some of India’s poorest children and young people with the skills and knowledge they need to grow up and be successful, to move out of poverty, and to take control of their future. These life-skills, ranging from education and gender equality to health and employability, are taught by youth volunteers from the communities, supported and trained through Magic Bus’ unique mentorship programme.The programme we deliver have strong grounding in academic research and are based on classical learning theories. Sporting activities and games are structured into each session to make them fun and appealing to our children. Sessions are designed to represent real-life situations and challenges so children are able to relate these back to their daily lives.Their youth-centered Livelihoods Program connects the aspirations and potential of young people to existing or new market opportunities, and is based on the premise that livelihoods must be sustainable. They plan for a young person take into account the resources they have, as well as their interests, to map the job potential based on strengths and mobility.

Project Need Magic Bus works with over 350,000 adolescents per year as a part of the adolescent programme to train them on life skills using sports as a medium of learning. According to the Magic Bus Covid-19 Impact Survey, 55% parents reported no income during the lockdown period. Additionally, 83% of children between 12 to 18 years of age within our surveyed communities do not have access to online education.  Challenges to Learning Continuity•      32 crore students are affected by school closure due to the COVID -19.•      With most educational institutes switching to digital modes of learning, socio-economic context in India dictates the degree and the ease of accessibility to education for its various strata:•    16.5% are able to operate a computer*•      20.1% are able to use internet*•      27% of school kids have no access to online classes**•      In the present scenario 41% will not be able to cover cost of educating their children*** Sources: *NSSO 2017-18, **NCERT Survey 2020, ***Magic Bus Survey 2020

The primary objective of this project is to ensure access to job opportunities on urgent basis for vulnerable and most affected out-of-work Youth affected due to Covid-19. 
 This will be achieved through focusing on:1. Facilitate linkages to job opportunities for Youth who have been displaced or have lost their jobs.2. Seek convergence and collaboration between MSMEs, industry associations, Skill Mission and job aggregators to strengthen as well as to leverage their network and outreach.3. Leverage use of online tools, platforms and technology to ensure effective matchmaking process to overcome the physical/social distancing barriers due to the COVID‐19. 
 To mobilize and place 10,000 mainly Out-of-work Youth, (belonging to underprivileged households from the 10 identified States with family income not exceeding Rs 2.4 lacs per annum) and enrol them on Magic Bus technology based job platform for assessment of their job related skill levels, and for immediate job placements

Magic Bus works with children and youth living in poverty to ensure they complete secondary education, and develop the skills required to transition successfully into the world of work. We believe that facilitating this journey from Childhood to Livelihood enables young people to break out of the poverty cycle• India accounts for the largest number of people living below the poverty line, with 30% of its population under the $1.90 measure.• In India, 40.8% of total children enrolled in schools drop out by Class 8.• In India, 30.21% girls are married off before they complete 18 years.• India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25 years.• Only 4.69% of the country’s total workforce has undergone formal skill training 
 As one of the early adopters of the UN’s Sport for Development agenda, the Magic Bus curriculum is a pioneering pedagogy, grounded in action research, academic research and classical learning theories. The curriculum works over the long term to impact individual behavior around education, gender equity and life skills and builds up towards future that is productive and respectable.•	The Magic Bus mentor is the key person delivering the programme to all children•	The mentor comes from the same community as the children, enabling a relationship that is both close and constant•	Each mentor is trained in the activity-based curriculum 
 •	Magic Bus children complete school all the way up to Grade 12, unlike general Indian school-goers (50.3% of children in India drop out by Class 10, age 16)•	A girl on our programme is nearly 100% sure of avoiding child marriage. This is significant since as many as 30.21% girls in India are married off as children.•	Youth on the Magic Bus programme get stable, dignified jobs•	Women and girls on the programme are more likely than their non-Magic Bus counterparts to remain economically self-reliant throughout their lives.

India is reeling under the COVID-19 second wave. 1.3 billion people in India are suffering the worst outbreak of COVID-19. The number of infected are rising every day. As the numbers rise exponentially, the health care system is on the brink of collapse. Hospitals are full of the ailing. Most homes are empty of food, of medicines, of hope. The poor are getting poorer. Their children are scared, anxious and overburdened with housework. Many are caregivers to ailing parents. In our virtual sessions that we carry out with our children every day, we see several struggle to keep their attention as around them things fall apart. We need help to save lives and your donations will help save Humanity and fight this pandemic. 
 We are attempting to provide required medical support such as life-saving medication oxygen concentrators, cylinders, etc. with a needs based approach in partnership with government health systems, agencies specialised in providing such support and local organisations.  Nearly Magic Bus 400,000 children and their families in 80 districts need our help right now. Schools are closed. A number of children don’t have devices to avail of online learning. We are keeping them safe, resilient, informed and on a learning journey.  We are also aiming to reach out to their families with awareness on COVID- 19 prevention, vaccination, and create linkages to government entitlements that ensure food security, and also distribute ration to the those in dire need. 
 Our aim is to build resilience among children and their communities so that they can cope with the second wave and be prepared for the third wave.Provision of medical supplies, oxygen cylinders and concentrators in partnership with local NGOs and government bodies responds to the immediate need for relief. COVID-19 prevention and vaccination awareness along with connection to government entitlements helps communities cope with loss of income and lack of access to valid information about how best to protect themselves from COVID-19. Virtual sessions with our children helps build their resilience to the difficulties they are facing while giving a voice to their fears and concerns. It gives children the confidence of being a part of a network of support and learning.
