The organisation provides irrigation as a service directly on your farm, charging on a per-litre basis. It installs the community solar powered pump in a cluster model, maintains it, and employs local people to deploy the service. Conventionally, the farmer makes the initial investment of setting up a diesel-based pump, sources fuel to run the pump, and bears the added cost of maintaining the pump. With Oorja’s low-carbon solar-powered irrigation solution, the farmer pays only for the water used apart from the initial membership cost.
