IYFS aims to educate people in waste management, rainwater harvesting, energy conservation, plastic waste reduction and safeguarding the environment. The organisation is committed to garnering effort by individuals to keep the surrounding areas free from air pollution and noise pollution while focussing on reduction in the usage of plastic based products including polythene. It spreads its message amongst the community through word of mouth, rallies, regular awareness campaigns, seminars, lectures, literature and print and electronic media. IYFS's campaigns include MESSAGE (Making Each School Student Aware of Good Environment) which is an initiative to teach children about the importance of conservation of water, energy and food, P4 (Prevent Polythene Bags -Protect Planet) which aims to sensitise people on reducing the usage of surplus plastic items in their day-to-day lives, SMART (Safety Means Alert on Road in Traffic) which aims to prevent traffic accidents in the city, SWAP (Solid Waste Awareness Program) which aims to execute solid waste management projects and H2O (Harvest To Overflow) which aims to solve the water crisis owing to the rapidly depleting groundwater levels.
