It is a registered non-profit organization in India. It is also a member of the Right To Education Forum. Swapnopuron runs schools and learning centres i.e. Swapnopuron Shiksha Niketan for marginalized children in the Sundarbans region of North 24 Pargana, West Bengal. The schools and the learning centres provide quality English medium schools with CBSE-based curriculum education to over 800 children. In Child Protection, Swapnopuron works to protect children from all forms of abuse and exploitation. We are a Member of the sub-committee on Child Trafficking, West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Swapnopuron works to raise awareness about adolescent health and hygiene among young people in the Sundarbans region. It conducts workshops and trainings on topics such as menstruation, HIV/AIDS, and reproductive health. It works to empower women in the Sundarbans region through education, skills training, and livelihood opportunities. It runs a women's empowerment centre that provides training in a variety of skills, such as sewing, embroidery, and computer literacy. Swapnopuron provides education kits to children in remote areas of the Sundarbans region. The kits contain a range of materials, such as textbooks, worksheets, stationaries and learning games.
Issue
Hingalganj in the Sundarbans region, North 24 Pargana, West Bengal, has long grappled with a severe scarcity of educational resources and opportunities for children. A significant number of children were compelled to abandon their education due to various socio-economic constraints. Similarly, Child labor was rampant in Hingalganj, with many children assisting their mothers in rolling biris to supplement family incomes. Families struggled with extreme poverty, often relying on daily wage labor, which hindered their ability to provide education for their children. Girls in Hingalganj were disproportionately burdened with household chores and domestic responsibilities, limiting their access to education. These gender disparities perpetuated inequality and restricted the potential of young girls in the community. Guardians and primary breadwinners of Hingalganj frequently engaged in seasonal migration in search of work. The lack of stable income sources and job opportunities in the region contributed to the economic vulnerability of the community. The absence of a robust child protection mechanism made children vulnerable to various forms of abuse and exploitation. Child rights violations, including child marriage and human trafficking, posed significant threats to the well-being of children in Hingalganj. Young adolescents lacked essential knowledge and resources related to health and hygiene, including menstruation, HIV/AIDS, and reproductive health. Inadequate access to menstrual hygiene products posed health risks for girls in the community. Women in Hingalganj faced limited opportunities for skill development, economic independence, and self-employment. The absence of support structures hindered women from breaking free from the cycle of poverty. The community witnessed educational disparities based on caste, creed, and religion, creating divisions and limiting educational opportunities for some children. Remote areas in the Sundarbans often lacked access to essential educational resources such as textbooks, learning materials, and qualified teachers. Geographical isolation compounded educational challenges. Swapnopuron Welfare Society recognized these pressing issues and initiated comprehensive programmes and initiatives to address each of them systematically.
Action
Swapnopuron Welfare Society's vision is to provide “Quality Education” to all children, irrespective of their socio- economic status and regional/cultural vulnerabilities, it is running a full time English Medium formal education. As a result, intensive capacity building of teachers is an ongoing practice at SWS and is conducted by external domain experts. Following thematic areas are covered – Experiential learning – Core skill taught to every teacher to instil true understanding of subjects in students Contextual teaching – Teaching not just concepts, but how they are implemented in real life Teaching Strategies and Pedagogy - pedagogy, classroom management, worksheet development, core subject skills etc. Multi Grade Multi Level (MGML) Teaching – Ability to assess the literacy/ numeracy skills of a child, group and teach children from varying age groups based on their skills Communicative English – Ability to deliver English medium education Mathematics – Innovative methods of teaching Math experientially Personality Development – Self-awareness and confidence improves the teaching skills. Building empathy helps them counsel/handle the parents better as our teachers also act as social workers for the families of students. Adolescent health and hygiene Conducting workshops and trainings on topics such as menstruation, HIV/AIDS, and reproductive health. Providing girls with access to sanitary pads and other menstrual hygiene products. Working to break the taboos surrounding menstruation and other aspects of adolescent health and hygiene. Women empowerment Running a women's empowerment center that provides training in a variety of skills, such as sewing, embroidery, and computer literacy. Helping women to access microfinance loans so that they can start their own businesses. Working to raise awareness about women's rights and to prevent gender-based violence.

The Swapnopuron Welfare Society has impacted 1721+ children with education, 1000+ children by offering them protection, 830+ with livelihoods, 3700+ Adolescents with mental health and menstrual hygiene services, 500+ women were given skill development training.

Child Protection Programme
It works to protect children in the Sunderbans region of West Bengal from child marriage, child labou, trafficking, abuse, and exploitation. SWS collaborates with local child protection committees and the Government to safeguard children. The Society conducts awareness campaigns for families and communities to encourage children to pursue education and avoid child labour.

Adolescents Programme
Swapnopuron Welfare Society works towards creating awareness about menstrual and reproductive health among adolescent girls in rural India. It educates women and their families about hygiene for good health, aiming to delay early marriage and increase access to health services. SWS has reached out to over 1600 girls in government schools and plans to expand to 12 more schools in the coming year.

Women Empowerement Programme
The Society empowers women in the Sunderbans region through various awareness campaigns, workshops, and skills-enhancing activities. It holds community meetings and orientation sessions to raise awareness and initiate sensitization. SWS's vision is to empower women through entrepreneurship development, making them self-reliant and helping other women achieve the same.

Community Development Programmes
Under community development, the Society takes up relief work in areas affected by natural calamities. It was active during the onslaught of cyclone Amphan in 2020 and during 2021 during the 2nd wave of Covid and the incidence of cyclone Yaas. It arranged for shelter of evacuees in its school building, distributed ration kits, meals, relief materials, PPE kits in case of Covid and helped spread information on Covid spread and protection.

Swapnopuron Welfare Society offers a three-step model for educating children. This includes an elementary education programme, an emphasis on English language skills, and capacity-building initiatives for both teachers and families. SWS aims to empower communities and ensure that every child has access to education. It offers various skill development activities, workshops, and exhibitions to improve the development of children.
