The Helping Hands Team initially started with 10 members working with a focus to support 18 school students who came from fatherless, single-parent, a Read morend underprivileged backgrounds. It provided financial assistance for school fees, essential supplies such as books, uniforms, notebooks, bags, and other necessities. As the organisation grew, the team expanded to approximately 70 members in 2017. During that year, it extended its support to 45 school students and three college students, including one pursuing a degree in Medicine. It's primary asset lies within its volunteers, who selflessly contribute their time, skills, and financial resources to make a meaningful impact. It also strives to support deserving students in pursuing higher education in various fields. Furthermore, the team conducts awareness programmes, skill development initiatives, and career guidance sessions for students in Government schools. Its vision is to bring about a significant socioeconomic transformation in the families of deserving students by providing them with educational opportunities. Ultimately, it aims to create positive change and uplift communities by facilitating access to education and empowering individuals to improve their circumstances.

With a strengthened volunteer base of approximately 180 dedicated individuals by 2018, the impactful efforts of the Helping Hands Team extended to supporting 50 school students and 15 college students, making a difference in their educational journeys.

Programs

  • Payirchi Pattarai Programme

    The Payirchi Pattarai programme focuses on providing training and workshops for rural and Government school children. Recognizing that financial support alone may not be sufficient to help them achieve their goals, the programme offers sessions on various skills including personality development, value education, computer training, career guidance, leadership, management, and student well-being. Two Government schools are identified each academic year for these essential training sessions.

  • Dr. Kalam Scholarship Scheme

    The project targets academically strong and motivated school students seeking higher education. Special consideration is given to single-parent/orphan/poor students, primarily from Government schools. Financial support for college fees, transportation, exams, hostels, mess, and books is provided, with the scholarship being renewable based on academic performance.

  • Mentorship Programme

    The programme aims to provide guidance and support to beneficiaries in both academic and non-academic areas. Each student is assigned a dedicated mentor who acts as a second parent, facilitating a flexible attitude towards learning, addressing issues, and helping them achieve their goals. The mentorship programme helps shape the students' character, adaptability, values, and focus, enabling their overall growth as responsible individuals.

  • Kamarajar Scholarship Scheme

    This project focuses on identifying deserving school students, particularly those from single-parent households, both in private and Government schools. Support is extended to students who are orphans, come from families affected by chronic illness, or are underprivileged with a family income of less than 1 lakh. In addition to covering their fees, educational essentials such as books, uniforms, bags, and stationery items are provided based on individual requirements.

  • Udavum Karangal Programme

    The Udavum Karangal programme focuses on improving basic infrastructure in Government schools. Schools with inadequate infrastructure are identified, and efforts are made to fulfil their needs, such as providing benches, desks, fans, RO plants, computer facilities, and mini libraries. Two schools are selected annually for this scheme.

  • Kamarajar and Abdul Kalam Scholarship Scheme

    Kamarajar Scholarship Scheme - Providing Education for school students Education is the primary source for children to keep their life in safe way. Education has a potential to change an individual, a family, and an entire generation. Nothing else in this world other than education has a potential to impact an entire generation. That’s the reason why we consider Education as the most powerful tool for children. Under this project we identify deserving school students and extend our hands in all their educational needs. We give priority to single parent children’s studying in both private and government schools. We support the students for both schools and colleges who comes under following categories: Orphan Fatherless / Single parent Students who’s parent(s) is/are affected by chronic illness Under privileged(Family income less than 1L) Apart from paying their fees we also buy them Books, Note Books, uniforms, Bags, Stationary items and other education needs based on their requirements. Dr. Kalam Scholarship scheme - Providing Higher Education to deserving school students The project was started in 2017, we identify deserving school students who are academically good and willing to pursue their higher education and extend our hands in all their educational needs. We give priority to single parent/orphan/poor students preferably from government schools. We also consider students under the above mentioned categories from private schools with excellent academic record. The scholarship includes a financial support for paying their college fees, transportation fees, exam fees, hostel fees, mess fees and book fees. The scholarship would be continued if their academic performance is consistent.

  • Improving Toilet Facilities for Government Schools in Remote Areas

    Udavum Karangal is a dedicated program which aims in basic infrastructure development in government schools. We identify government schools where the basic infrastructure is very poor and try our level best to fulfill those basic infra structure needs. Yearly two such schools would be identified under this scheme. Basic Infrastructure that would be covered under this scheme: Toilet renovation, Buying Benches and desks for class rooms Buying Fans for the class rooms RO plant set up Setting up Computer facility Setting up Mini Library

  • Payirchi Pattarai - Training Program for Government School Childrens

    Payirchi Pattarai program is dedicated in giving training and workshop for rural and government school children’s. Financial support provided to the students to complete their education is often not enough to achieve their goals. Understanding this, training programs and workshops are planned to equip the students for necessary skills. Sessions on Personality Development, Value Education, Computer training's, career guidance, Leadership, Management and Student Wellbeing are conducted through these workshops. Under this program we have planned to identify two government schools per academic year and provide these basic training to those students.
