The organisation’s core area of work is cervical cancer prevention and early detection. We achieve this through community outreach, awareness and facilitating cervical cancer screening and patient navigation for women from economically weaker sections of the society. We work in collaboration with District/State Health Departments in Punjab, Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. So far, we have impacted 48.7 million+ people through awareness drives and screened 32.8 thousand+ persons in 479 screening camps. We are also involved in advocacy work to effect policy changes at national level to facilitate wider accessibility to cervical cancer preventive modalities. We have strategic collaborations with global organisations such as American Cancer Society (ACS), Cervical Cancer Action for Elimination (CCAE) Network and Australia Centre for Prevention of Cervical Cancer (ACPCC) and local healthcare organisations such as NICPR, AIIMS, Delhi Cancer Hospital, Gurugram Civil Hospital, Ramakrishna Charitable Hospital (Vrindavan) and Path Sanjivani Charitable Trust. Our projects have been supported and funded by corporates such as Indraprastha Gas Limited, BMW Foundation, Birlasoft, Cvent, AstraZeneca, CAF, Safexpress, Tata 1mg, DSS, among others

Issue

CAPED works on cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the 4th most common cancer worldwide. It is estimated that 604,127 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer, and 341,831 died from the disease in 2020 worldwide. Of these, India reported around 21% of the total cervical cases, as per the data . In India, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women. Every 8 minutes, one Indian woman dies from cervical cancer. Cervical cancer affects approximately 453 million (45.3 crores) Indian women aged 21 and older. Without intervention, it is predicted that 57,74,738 women in India will die from cervical cancer by 2070 . The disease burden in India is really high, despite the fact that cervical cancer is one of the most successfully treatable cancers when detected early and managed effectively. When diagnosed early, the 5-year survival rate exceeds 90% . Cervical cancer is preventable in up to 93% of cases and yet, India contributes to 21% of the world’s total cases of cervical cancer – all preventable deaths .
