    2010

Founded in 2010 by a group of dedicated professionals, HELP (Human Empowerment & Livelihood Promotion) Foundation stands as a secular social service o Read morerganization. The core philosophy of HELP revolves around embracing a holistic understanding of communities' environments, viewing them as intricate ecosystems. This viewpoint is supported by comprehensive research, driving HELP's transformative initiatives across all dimensions of the environment. Central to HELP Foundation's mission is the restoration of wetlands ecosystems. The organization perceives the environment as a dynamic entity necessitating sustainable nurturing and care. With a sharp focus on wetlands, HELP endeavors to safeguard the ecosystem surrounding these areas. By doing so, they contribute to the conservation of water bodies, ultimately fostering the revival of the entire ecosystem encompassing these wetlands. This approach facilitates the healing and preservation of water bodies for the prosperity of future generations. One of HELP's notable endeavours involves Mangrove Afforestation, embodying the concept of "Nurture and Care." The organization recognized a direct parallel between the collective harm inflicted on wetlands, often referred to as nature's kidneys, and the deterioration of human kidneys. Moreover, HELP Foundation adopts a "Heal & Restore" perspective, extending aid to victims of environmental and ecosystem degradation. This includes providing healing care to individuals grappling with Renal Failure through the "DAYA Program," assisting those affected by Cancer through the "HELP-CAN Program," and tending to bedridden patients via the "OUTREACH Program."

Impact

To date, the foundation’s efforts have resulted in the support of over 11,000 dialysis procedures. 1,270 cancer/dialysis/stroke patients served free medicines 2,740 monthly food kit delivered to bedridden patients 7,596 midday meal packets delivered till date

Programs

  • Cancer treatment

    State

The "CAN-HELP" Cancer Support Assistance Program, initiated by HELP Foundation, strives to address the gaps in cancer drug availability. It aims to supplement cancer drugs when there is a shortage in the government supply chain, thereby preventing treatment interruptions that can adversely affect patients' well-being.
The surge in the number of cancer patients seeking care at district hospitals has led to an increased demand for cancer drugs. However, sustaining the continuous availability of these drugs at no cost becomes a challenge due to government funding constraints and technical issues in accessing drugs through government insurance schemes like KASP/ KBF. This often results in treatment disruptions, subsequently affecting disease progression and patient outcomes.
The Department of Oncology and Palliative Care at District Hospital Kollam recognized the significance of this issue and sought HELP Foundation's assistance.

  • Dialysis assistance

    State

"DAYA" (Dialysis Assistance) is an innovative initiative by HELP Foundation designed to prevent kidney patients from succumbing to the financial barriers associated with dialysis treatment. Initially established through a collaboration with Ashtamudi Hospital, this initiative has since evolved to encompass a broader scope, extending financial assistance to patients in need across various major hospitals. Through "DAYA," HELP Foundation is committed to ensuring that kidney patients receive the vital dialysis treatment they require without being hindered by financial constraints.

  • Mangrove afforestation project

    State

The Mangrove Afforestation project is a strategic endeavour aimed at cultivating an ecosystem-driven approach for the integrated management of land, water, and living resources in the vicinity of Paravur Lake. Beyond merely planting mangroves, this initiative places significant importance on the meticulous nurturing, safeguarding, and monitoring of saplings. Moreover, it endeavours to instil an understanding of the importance and necessity of mangrove conservation within the local community. This meaningful work has also extended to the banks of Ashtamudi Lake.
Mangrove forests, which thrive in saltwater environments within tropical regions, hold a unique ability to sequester "blue carbon" – a term coined to distinguish it from the conventional "green" carbon stored on land.

  • Morning Star Autism Centre

    State

Morning Star Autism Centre aims to establish a specialized facility benefitting children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. Catering to ages 3 to 16, it provides adaptations to accommodate their challenges and aims for full-time support, integrating them into mainstream society. With contributions from various sectors, it will evolve into a Rehabilitation and Research Centre for ASD and other disabilities, guided by the Sisters of St. Charles and HELP Foundation.

  • Not for profit medical store

    State

For the past decade, HELP has provided support to Cancer and Dialysis patients through a range of assistance programs. The organization is committed to taking a comprehensive perspective on community environments, considering them as intricate ecosystems. Since 2019, it has expanded the focus to include paralyzed (bedridden) patients, some of whom were the primary earners for their families.
A substantial portion of the financial aid is directed towards covering patients' medication expenses, a significant portion of which often gets funnelled through the layers of the drug distribution network, resulting in about 40% overhead costs. To mitigate this issue, the foundation established partnerships with certain manufacturers who offer their drugs at a 30% discount as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility. The foundation directly passes on this entire discount to cancer patients.

  • Green messenger

    State

HELP Foundation introduced the innovative "Green Messenger" Signature Program in November 2012. This program is strategically devised to instate a profound connection with environmental consciousness. The foundation's efforts center on fostering a paradigm shift within the youth, spreading a vital message.
The program's cornerstone involves the designation of a student as a "Green Messenger" through their participation in the school's eco-club. In support of this endeavour, a lecture series has been introduced, encompassing a comprehensive set of 10 sessions. Each session, lasting an hour and a half, is facilitated by dedicated personnel from HELP Foundation. The content of the lecture series is thoughtfully curated, addressing various vital aspects. Meticulously conceived by HELP Foundation's researchers, this series is designed to kindle and sustain high levels of interest and active participation among the student community.
