Jageswari Jubak Sangha

Orissa has been synonymous with poverty. To compound the problem natural disasters play havoc with the lives of women, especially the poor and the dow Read morentrodden who are the worst affected during any calamity. In the recent past, a series of floods, cyclones, and droughts visited the state and exposed the limitations of the government in providing shelter to the victims in times of need. Similarly, there have been reports of starvation, malnutrition and untimely death due to severe poverty in the state. Clearly, the Government is in no position to reach out to each person and every village. Voluntary organizations working at the grass-root level are in the best position to work for the people. Realising this fact some like-minded women came together on a single platform called “Jageswari Jubak Sangha” to contribute to the cause of social development on 7th February 1974. Later it was felt to give the forum a legal sanctity to make the effort more effective. Thus this forum was registered under Societies Registration Act. XXI of 1860 on dated 7th February 1977. “Jageswari Jubak Sangha is a non-governmental organisation, which found its birth in the critical situation by a group of interested youth. Since that day, it has come a long way and implemented a lot of programmes. The aim of starting such an agency was to unite the women and to make them agents of their own development.
