    2004

Iniyaudaiyam Charitable Trust, abbreviated as IUCT, was founded in 2004 under the Public Charitable Trust Act in Chennai, India, by MBA professionals Read moreKomala Sivakumar and Sujatha Sekar. Its journey began with a shared concern for the well-being of economically disadvantaged children and disabled individuals. Transitioning from self-initiated philanthropy, they decided to leverage their management and entrepreneurship skills to make a tangible impact on the lives of the underprivileged. The organisation focuses on marginalized groups, particularly children from migrant communities and slum dwellers who often engage in begging, rag picking, and selling trinkets at traffic signals. These children face challenges such as irregular school attendance, lack of supervision, and exposure to drugs and anti-social activities. IUCT is dedicated to addressing these issues and working towards the educational upliftment of these children, aiming to empower them for a better future. Its mission revolves around fostering literacy, social awareness, self-sufficiency, community health, and motivating individuals for the overall betterment of society.

Programs

  • Disaster Response Programme

In response to the global COVID-19 crisis, the organisation has initiated a campaign to safeguard vulnerable families, particularly daily wage workers, from the economic repercussions of the pandemic. It aims to provide immediate financial support to these families, offering a minimum wage in cash until they can secure employment again. Additionally, recognizing the widespread lack of access to essential hygiene products among poor communities in India, the organisation is committed to distributing hygiene kits. These kits will aid thousands of underprivileged families, including abandoned elderly individuals, urban slum dwellers, and poor cancer patients, in adhering to necessary sanitation standards and mitigating the impact of the virus. Support is sought to contribute generously to this effort, ensuring a united front against the challenges posed by the coronavirus.

  • Education Programme

The organisation is dedicated to empowering underprivileged children through the "VALUE-BASED DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION" project, offering quality education for self-reliance, health, and confidence. With a 100% result goal, it targets 450 beneficiaries annually, including slum, migrant, ragpicker, cobbler, and single-parent children. The "Empower and Effective Education (EEE)" initiative extends support to child labourers and begging, nomadic, and street children in JJ Nagar and Vino Nagar. The comprehensive approach includes parent meetings, capacity and life skill training, exposure visits, celebrations, summer camps, and the establishment of a Child Parliament, aiming to positively impact these young lives.

  • Healthcare Programme

The organisation actively combats malnutrition through its programme, supplying nutritious food to 250 Remedial Class Children. Additionally, it conducts biannual medical camps, covering dental, eye, and general health, benefiting up to 300 children each year. With a target of 10,000 beneficiaries annually, the organisation focuses on adolescent girls, addressing health issues and preventing diseases through improved hygiene and sanitation in rural and suburban areas. The initiative includes dispelling myths, providing individual counselling to needy children, and distributing cloth pads to address menstrual health and hygiene challenges. Recognizing the potential health risks associated with traditional pads, especially in economically challenging conditions, IUCT raises awareness and educates adolescent girls while providing organic cloth pads to ensure their well-being.

  • Livelihoods Programme

Iniyaudaiyam Charitable Trust empowers youth and women from low-income families through the Smile Twin e-Learning Programme (STeP), providing courses in computer applications, English, and personality development. Over five years, 1800+ students benefited, leading to positive changes for individuals, families, and communities, with over 80% experiencing improved lifestyles. Graduates secured placements in reputable companies. The Joyme Academy focuses on youth transformation through vocational training in tailoring, and addressing vulnerabilities and poverty in Chennai's outskirts. The project not only imparts valuable skills but also facilitates job placement, elevating family income and mitigating youth vulnerability.

  • Environment Programmes

Iniyaudaiyam Charitable Trust engages in various environmental initiatives, including tree plantation, climate change awareness, and rehabilitation efforts in the aftermath of natural disasters. Through tree plantation, it benefits 1000 families by providing three siblings for each family. The organisation distributes seeds worth Rs.150 per family for 1000 families, contributing to environmental sustainability. In response to the Chennai floods, relief and rehabilitation work involved providing rations, food, clothing, and cleaning ponds. Additionally, rehabilitation efforts extended to families affected by the Gaja cyclone, including the distribution of seeds and the construction of huts for nine families, each valued at Rs.25,000. Through these interventions, Iniyaudaiyam Charitable Trust actively contributes to water and sanitation initiatives, promoting a healthier and more sustainable environment.
