Danpur Himalayan Rural and Agriculture Society (DHARA) is a non-profit organization that was registered under the Society Registration Act, 1860 in 20 Read more06. Since its inception, the organization has been actively engaged in the fields of health, education, and community development, focusing on socio-economic development and the empowerment of women and vulnerable populations. The organisation holds certifications such as 12A, 80G, and FCRA, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and credibility. With extensive experience in the education sector since 2006, the organization has undertaken various socio-development interventions to address prevalent societal issues. Working voluntarily and on a project basis, the organization has catered to rural communities, women, children, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and disaster-affected communities. The organization operates in Nainital and Bageshwar Districts, having executed programs such as HIV/AIDS programs funded by USACS Dehradun Uttarakhand in District Nainital, SWAP (Water and Sanitation Program), NAVACHAR Project, and innovative biomass briquette programs in Bageshwar District. In response to the catastrophic flash floods of June 2013, it collaborated with the Gender Issue Cell of ATI Nainital, funded by the Women and Child Development Department of Uttarakhand, Dehradun. The collaboration aims to promote capacity building and livelihood support, currently operational in District Bageshwar. Under this initiative, it has established 30 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) comprising 335 members engaged in various micro-finance and income-generating activities. Additionally, the organization has mobilized the community to form Farmers, Income Generation Activity (IGA), and User groups, fostering sustainable livelihood practices. DHARA has implemented a successful monitoring mechanism, actively practised by the community for program sustainability. The organization's focused themes include social mobilization, entrepreneurship, livelihood generation, consolidation convergence, and sustainability, emphasizing the transfer of knowledge. Presently, DHARA boasts a dedicated team of 12 members and benefits from the guidance of four advisors. Vision: The vision is to establish a society where empowerment and access to proper education, health, safe drinking water, livelihood opportunities, and the responsible maintenance of natural resources are available to all rural and urban individuals.
