Action for Protection of Wild Animals

Mangroves, the life supporting eco-system (wildlife habitats, sustains livelihood, buffers from cyclone and storm surges etc.) those are critical to social as well as economic lifeline for many poor communities. Despite the many benefits that mangroves provide, they are being destroyed at an alarming rate.
Unfortunately, the extreme poverty has been forced these people for cutting, highly dependent and destroying it knowingly and un-knowingly. Community participation is the hall mark of our success and that have sustained and encouraged us to lead the way towards our mission on mangroves. Over hundred ha. of degraded land restored with mangrove forest. We are happy that, these plantation sites are now protecting some rare and endangered species of reptiles, amphibians, birds, fish, etc. Our initiative is unique, because
greater community partnership ensures the sustainable management, reduction of degradation, restoration of mangroves, stability of food security, gender balanced Village Mangrove Councils and sustainability of other related development activities and thus contributes substantially towards the
achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Odisha coast is considered amongst the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change induced natural disasters. The effects of sea-level rise, increased frequency and intensity of cyclones, floods, soil erosion, and salinity intrusion pose a serious threat for Odisha. Our Community Disaster Resilience
Programme aims to enhance the resilience of communities in the face of natural disasters. Recognizing the increasing frequency and intensity of such events, this program implementing in hundred villages on coastal areas to empower communities to effectively respond, recover, and adapt to these challenges. By fostering collaboration, building capacity, and promoting sustainable practices, the program aims to create resilient communities that can withstand and bounce back from disasters

APOWA has been trying its best to alleviate fear, pain and suffering in countless animals’ lives. APOWA is committed to reaching animals suffering the most in the rural areas of Odisha state. We determined to make sure that these animals have a better life now through free treatment; food, shelter and cruelty free
a happier future.

Thousands of species are threatened to become extinct in near future. The survival of wildlife especially endangered species has always been a priority for APOWA and great strides have been made to protect the habitats and remaining populations of these species.

Olive Ridley Conservation Project:
Odisha coast considered world’s largest nesting sites for Olive Ridley Sea turtles. Every year Olive Ridleys are migrating to Odisha coast for nesting. Olive Ridleys, considered a top conservation priority as it is an endangered and ecologically important species. Olive Ridleys are vital to the health of marine ecosystems.
While the Olive Ridley turtle is the most abundant of its species, only 1 in 1000 hatchlings survives to adulthood. Odisha coast is highly vulnerable today for several factors. In order to aid the conservation of the Olive Ridleys, we have been undertaken several steps through community conservation initiative in
non-protected nesting beaches of Odisha. Every year we have been protect & release more than one lakh Olive Ridley hatchlings. Apart from that, every year we have been cleaned the nesting beach for providing the female Olive Ridleys & their hatchlings, a safe and clean nesting habitat.

Our marine and coastal resources conservation programme aims to protect and preserve the fragile ecosystems in Odisha coast. Through a combination of
community led action, education, and sustainable management practices, our program is dedicated to ensuring the long-term health and vitality of our coast
and ocean. Local communities are encouraged to actively participate in the conservation efforts through community-based initiatives, such as beach clean-ups, awareness campaigns, and capacity-building programs.
By involving the local communities in the conservation process, the programme aims to create a sense of ownership and responsibility towards the marine and
coastal resources. Rising sea levels, increased ocean temperatures, and extreme weather events pose significant threats to the coastal areas of Odisha.
Our programme includes measures to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change, such as the restoration of mangroves, and promotion of climate-resilient livelihood.
