Programs

  • Environment and Conservation

In the Sundarban region, higher forest dependency and human-wildlife conflicts pose significant challenges for forest fringe villagers, who heavily rely on the forest for their livelihoods. Recognizing this issue, the Lokamata Rani Rashmoni Mission has taken proactive steps to address these concerns and improve the well-being of the local communities. To mitigate forest dependency and reduce the frequency of human-wildlife conflicts, the organization has implemented various livelihood activities in collaboration with villagers and beneficiaries. One such approach involves promoting poultry farming, garole sheep and goat rearing, and jute rope production units. These livelihood options not only provide alternative sources of income but also require less time spent engaging in forest-related activities. By diversifying their income streams, villagers can lessen their reliance on the forest and find more stable economic opportunities within their communities.

  • Training of SHG women for Self-Employment

The Lokamata Rani Rashmoni Mission has initiated various skill development programs to empower Self Help Group (SHG) women and unemployed youths in the community. The organization focuses on sectors such as Animal Husbandry, Poultry Farming, Handicrafts, and Tailoring, providing training to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in these fields.

Upon completing the training, the beneficiaries receive post-training support, which plays a crucial role in facilitating their self-employment ventures. For instance, each beneficiary is provided with one goat to kickstart their Animal Husbandry efforts. This support enables them to begin their goat-rearing activities, which can be a sustainable source of income.

  • Medical Services

In 1993, the Medical Wing of the Lokamata Rani Rashmoni Mission established a low-cost Poly Clinic in Kundghat, Kolkata. This clinic has been instrumental in providing healthcare services to the local community without placing a heavy financial burden on the patients. Over the years, the Poly Clinic has successfully served an average of 2500 patients annually, meeting their medical needs with the assistance of 18 specialist doctors who are associated with the medical wing. These dedicated doctors attend to patients at the clinic, charging only nominal fees for their services, thus making quality healthcare accessible to a broader segment of the population.

  • Science Popularization

As the District Coordinating Agency of the National Children's Science Congress (NCSC) for South 24 Parganas District, the organization has taken on the responsibility of organizing a district-level congress that actively involves children between the ages of 10 and 17. The program aims to foster scientific curiosity and innovation among young minds, encouraging them to explore and present their ideas and findings in various scientific fields.
