Established in 1997 by a group of youthful advocates within the Giridih district, Jago Foundation is dedicated to driving positive transformation in m Read morearginalized communities. Guided by principles inspired by Gandhi, the organisation has grown from its local origins to impact more than 98 villages across four districts in Jharkhand. Concentrating on education and empowerment, the Foundation serves a substantial populace of over 25,000, encompassing children, women, families, and those on the fringes of society. The Foundation's overarching aspiration is to shape a just society by extending education and backing to underserved communities. Its mission involves liberating rural children from exploitation, providing them with educational prospects for a more promising future, and furnishing the youth with skills to enhance their livelihoods. Through community engagement, with a special focus on women, Jago Foundation underscores the importance of education and even imparts training to mothers to take on roles as educators in Government schools. Collaborating with Governmental bodies, the organisation strives to secure educational access and entitled benefits. Beyond education, the Foundation nurtures efforts targeting healthcare and better livelihoods, all geared towards uplifting overall living conditions. Looking ahead, Jago Foundation envisions widening its scope to evolve into an all-encompassing community development entity, with particular attention towards assisting the most susceptible segments of society, including those affected by leprosy.

Impact
Jago Foundation's impactful initiatives have yielded results such as 30 villages are now free from child labour, 40 villages have eradicated child marriages, while an impressive 90% of girls in the project area have successfully completed 10 years of schooling. Over 13,000 children have been enrolled in schools and Anganwadis, including 572 previously drop-out children. Moreover, 1,600 young adults have received life skills training, 3,200 tribals have secured forest land leases, and 87 adolescent groups have been established in 65 affected villages. Notably, 1,000 adolescent girls have been equipped with self-defence skills through martial arts training. Furthermore, 6,600+ students from 50 high schools are actively advocating against child marriages and are well-informed about the Child Marriage Prohibition Act. The impact extends to digital education, benefiting 900+ individuals from tribal and rural communities, with a particular focus on girls' computer education. This comprehensive effort has transformed 20 schools and 16 Anganwadi centres into role models, fully equipped and serving as beacons of progress. The commitment of over 78,000 community members and others to prevent child marriage.

Livelihoods & Community Building Programme
Jago Foundation engages in activities centred around Livelihoods and Community Enhancement. The organisation focuses on elevating livelihoods by delivering training and financial assistance to families, thereby fostering supplementary income sources to lessen reliance on Mica. Additionally, these projects contribute to nurturing community cohesion in the mica mining regions.

Child Rights Awareness Campaign
Jago Foundation focuses on raising awareness about child rights, health, nutrition, and education through children's and adolescent groups in both schools and the community. The foundation's key project involves running campaigns to educate these groups and the wider community. As a result, children's and adolescent groups have successfully curbed child labor and prevented numerous child marriages.

Adolescent Empowerment Programme
Jago Foundation has established and educated adolescent groups within villages. The core focus of these groups is to raise awareness regarding Government initiatives and critical social concerns such as child marriage, counterfeit marriages, child labour, and child trafficking.

Child Line Se Dosti Programme
Jago Foundation engages in the "Childline se Dosti" initiative, aiming to raise awareness about the CHILDLINE helpline (1098) for children in need. Through this campaign, the organisation encourages children to become acquainted with key individuals and entities such as DSWO, DCPO, CWC, SDPO, Police Personnel, BDO, PRI Members, Media, and the broader community. Around 900 children and other participants have been reached through this endeavour.

Early Childhood Education Programme
Jago Foundation is dedicated to Early Childhood Education, aiming to ensure the effective functioning of Anganwadi centres for children below 5 years of age. In response to the pandemic, a unique method of home-based learning was implemented, wherein mothers were trained to act as teachers and common household items were utilized to teach foundational pre-primary concepts.
