L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) has a mission to offer inclusive and high-quality eye care accessible to all sectors of society. It operates through ten distinct branches, encompassing Clinical Services, Education, Research, Vision Rehabilitation, Rural and Community Eye Health, Eye Banking, Advocacy and Policy Planning, Capacity Building, and Innovation and Product Development. The institute is overseen by two non-profit entities: Hyderabad Eye Institute (HEI) and Hyderabad Eye Research Foundation (HERF). Initially, prior to the physical establishment of the Institute, the esteemed Indian filmmaker, Sri Akkineni Lakshmi Vara Prasad Rao, known as L V Prasad, allocated a portion of the earnings from his blockbuster film "Ek Duje Ke Liye" towards a noble cause. His contribution amounted to one crore rupees and included the donation of five acres of land to create a cutting-edge Eye Institute. In appreciation of this generous act, the Board of the Institute decided to name the institution after him. Throughout the years, his family has continued to uphold support for the Institute's endeavours. Mr. Ramesh Prasad, his son and the Managing Director of Prasad Film Laboratories, serves as a founding trustee of LVPEI. L V Prasad Eye Institute endeavours to serve as a pinnacle of excellence in eye care services, fundamental and clinical research pertaining to eye diseases and vision-related ailments, training, product innovation, and rehabilitation for individuals facing irreparable visual impairments. • HomeCare

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) introduced the HomeCare service to ensure uninterrupted care for patients unable to visit LVPEI centers, particularly the elderly. Presently, this service is accessible to patients within a specified distance (10-25 kilometers) from LVPEI’s Kallam Anji Reddy campus in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, and Mithu Tulsi Chanrai campus in Patia, Bhubaneswar. HomeCare services are available from Monday to Saturday, operating between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm.

The vision technician or optometrist will conduct a thorough eye examination at the patient's residence, assessing visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and capturing anterior and posterior segment photographs. The collected data will be uploaded onto the HomeCare app and reviewed by an ophthalmologist at LVPEI's specialized teleophthalmology center. Subsequently, a video consultation will be arranged between the doctor and the patient.

  • Eye surgeries

Eye surgeries at LVPEI are mainly day care procedures, often not requiring an overnight hospital stay, although some cases might necessitate a short hospital stay. In such instances, LVPEI ensures comfortable, secure, and hygienic accommodation for both patients and attendants. The nursing assistants are available 24/7 and adept at handling emergencies.
Approximately half of the services are offered free of charge to economically disadvantaged individuals. It provides three paying service categories: General, Supporters, and Sight Savers. By opting to become a Supporter or Sight Saver, one can actively contribute to those who are unable to pay.
LVPEI proudly extends its services to our nation's defence personnel.
