Lighthouse Communities is working to create sustainable livelihoods, digital empowerment and provide quality education to underprivileged sections of Read moresociety, especially youth from low-income backgrounds. As its primary objective, the organisation strives to provide life and skill training to marginalised youth from slum communities so that they can realise their innate ability and progress in life. The youth are guided and mentored extensively to reach their career goals and achieve success. The Pune Municipal Corporation was awarded the Global well-being award for 2019, in the Economy and Opportunity category, in recognition of the benefits realised out of its Lighthouse Programme.

Lighthouse Communities runs 23 Lighthouses covering 400 slum communities, training 12800+ youth with 1500 of them opting for higher education, enrolling 25000+ youth, providing employment and placing 14400+ youth with 60% still working at the post they were placed a year ago.

Programs

  • Digital Empowerment Programme

    District

    Lighthouse Communities runs the Digital Empowerment Programme with an aim to ensure that at least one person from each low-income family must be able to use the internet to improve their quality of life. The programme involves the creation of digital empowerment centres and equipped buses near the vicinity of slums which are visited by faculty regularly.

    Members from underprivileged families are enrolled in the centres and provided training for a total duration of forty hours.

  • Global Opportunity Youth Network(GOYN) Programme

    District

    The GOYN programme seeks to identify and empower the youth of Pune city. It aims to guide every youth towards sustainable livelihood and a life of dignity through locally created opportunities by an eco-system of local players. It encourages collaboration within the eco-system and encourages collective action, motivates public initiative and arranges for requisite funds to set up entrepreneurship opportunities for the youth.

  • Quality Education Programme

    District

    Partnering with the Education Department of Pune and Marathi medium schools of the city, the organisation strives for the development of children and teachers. The programme involves providing holistic social and emotional learning, creating vibrant physical learning spaces and activity-based learning through robotics, science, and music.

  • The Lighthouse Programme

    District

    It is a sustainable livelihood programme for underprivileged youth. The programme reaches out to youth from low-income communities through personal visits by volunteers, the identified youth are taken through sessions of creative exercises, mindfulness practices, group challenges and interaction with successful individuals.

    The youth are then counselled and informed about various career and vocation options followed by enrollment in foundational courses for digital literacy and vocational skilling. On successful completion of training, pre-coaching for interviews, CV making and mock interviews are conducted and the candidates are finally placed in partner organisations post completion of appropriate formalities.
