SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action) was established in 1999, by a group of renowned doctors and social workers who believed that curative care in hospitals was not enough and that there is a need to go beyond the walls of the hospital to save more lives through prevention and education. SNEHA is a secular, Mumbai-based non-profit organization working to improve preventive and promotive healthcare among marginalized slum communities.
SNEHA targets four major areas of public health –
Maternal & Newborn Health
Child Health & Nutrition
Sexual and Reproductive Health amongst Adolescents
Prevention of Violence against Women & Children.
SNEHA’s beneficiaries are from the most marginalized and vulnerable communities living in informal settlements in urban areas. SNEHA has developed the continuum of care model which aims to intervene in the first 1000 day window (between conception and the child’s second birthday) to improve health and nutrition status of women and children.
SNEHA develops evidence-based models of health to improve maternal and child health indicators and implements them directly through field-level interventions in and around Mumbai and through partnerships with other organizations across other parts of India. We directly work with over 3, 00,000 women and children each year and indirectly reach a population of 7, 50,000 across MMRDA region.
