I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. When I was distributing meals in the slums, I happened to meet a 6-year-old orphan who was living alone. He had recently lost his parents and sister. No one was looking out for him. I want to make sure that children like him never have to sleep hungry again 
 They struggle to afford two square meals a day. Their children dig for food in the dustbin or resort to begging when they are too hungry. Azmi Foundation’s initiative feeds them and provides them with ration kits. Their ration kits consist of- dal, rice, wheat flour, wafer, biscuits (for children) and other basic amenities. Each of these kits can cost anywhere between 450-850 rupees. When money falls short, we pay out of our pocket to cover the difference. 
 Moreover, each food drive comes with additional expenses. The cost of petrol, disposable food containers and ingredients can add up to quite a large sum. And without any funding, the volunteers have to shell out an exorbitant amount to keep up with the growing demands.Shahbaz has now resorted to making food in his own kitchen so that he can serve as many hungry people as he can. His mother and relatives lovingly cook each meal that he distributes to the needy over the course of the day. Occasionally, he even treats them to pizza and sandwiches which the children love!To make more meals and keep the foundation running, Shahbaz will need Rs.18,08,000.
