Bhavada Devi Memorial Philanthropic Trust, SENEH is working for the most under privileged and deprived section of society, mainly women. The main activity of ‘Seneh’ is running a home for Destitute old Women at Guwahati. The residents of Seneh were mostly pavement dwellers who had no Shelter, Means of Sustenance or anyone to care for. The women had myriads of ailments some physical, others both mental and physical. The intensity of their sufferings in the past can be understood from the fact that in case of four out of 27 residents , but for seneh’s intervention, they would have probably died in a few hours. Nine were picked up from the streets in complete mental deranged conditions, treated as in patient in local psychiatric hospital for varying periods. Now they are cured and are leading somewhat normal lives with of course regular psychiatric medication.The residents of Seneh are given shelter, food, complete medical care, clothing, means of entertainment, all absolutely free.The other activities of the trust are as follows.a.	Provision of yearly stipend to the top ranking girls from each class in a Girls school in remote, extremely poor area.b.	Distribution of Sanitary pads free to 500 adolescent girls studying in different schools of remote and under privileged areas.c.	Provisions of free breakfast to about 150 attendants of Cancer patients of General ward of local Dr. B. Barooah Cancer Hospital, Guwahatid. Disaster relief work for flood victims as well as in Covid times by providing food, drinking water, mosquito nets and clothing items in remote areas of the state of Assam .

Over the past financial year 24-25, we've continued to care for 38 women rescued from hardship.Our process of rehabilitation is as follows:<ol><li>We identify and rescue the beneficiary.</li><li>She is cleaned and provided fresh clothes before being taken for her medical check-up.</li><li>We take her into our shelter home and provide supplies like blankets and toiletries, and medicines as per the doctor's recommendation.</li><li>The beneficiary is reunited with her family when feasible.</li><li>In case of any untoward death, we hold the beneficiary's funeral rights, according to her religious customs.</li></ol>We urgently request your support in combating homelessness and suffering. Purnima (name changed) was a woman suffering from mental health challenges found living in perilous conditions. She had no one to care for her and her only companions were the stray animals she shared her living space with. She is just one of countless abandoned women, often found with psychological issues on the streets of Assam. She was living a miserable existence, subsisting on the scraps of food thrown to her until Seneh found her and started looking after her well-being. Since then, she has shown drastic improvement in her habits, behavior, and mental state. From barely being able to walk on her own to dancing with joy at Seneh, she is so cheerful that Seneh's other beneficiaries call her 'beaming'. But Purnima is just one of many abandoned women, living alone and desperate to survive. With the help of our selfless donors, we can change this and take care of all in her situation. Bhabada Devi Philanthropic Trust is working for the benefit of the under privileged and deprived section of the society especially women of North East India.North East India has the lowest per capita holding of cultivable land in India. Recurring floods which inundates vast areas every year further shrink land availability because of silting. Being primarily an agrarian economy, with hardly any discernible industrial growth, the condition of the common man in the countryside is appalling. One of the consequences of this pathetic state is the gradual disintegration of the traditional family values and ethos.The worst sufferers are the old and the infirm since their children in many cases, are dumping them to fend for themselves out of economic compulsions. Women in the age group of fifty and above are the ones who suffer the most, because they are mentally and physically vulnerable. 
 To alleviate their suffering and bring dignity and succor to some of these women, the Trust has opened a destitute home at Guwahati. Aptly named SENEH, meaning 'Selfless Love', the home provides shelter, food, medical care, clothing and all necessities for sustaining a decent dignified life. The vision is that in the sunset years of their lives, they can once again learn to laugh and sing and live together as a family ... all ABSOLUTELY FREE. 
 As of now there are 25 destitute women who have made SENEH their home. Unfortunately the present facilities cannot accomodate any more, although, almost every day the management gets distress calls from others with genuine needs. The extent of help that such hapless women require is evident from the fact that in the last 6 years SENEH has organized cataract operations for 22 residents, provided dentures to 15, hearing aid to 2 and all 12 are being treated for various ailments including prolonged psychiatric medication . As examples of the apathy experienced by these residents, one of the current residents was abandoned since she is absolutely blind. Yet another was picked up from a remote village on the Assam Bhutan Border living as a hermit since the villagers thought she was a witch.Two were picked up from busy road corners , unconscious, seriously injured but no one cared for them. Yet another a visually and speech impaired was thrown out from a moving car near police station.

There are a number of concerns we are trying to take care of. The foremost is providing shelter food , all encompassing medical care , clothing to destitute Old Women , so that at the sunset years of their lives they live a life of comfort and dignity. There are plenty of such unfortunate victims of circumstances who either loiter on the steers, spend the nights under flyovers or in the Railway platforms. Quite a few of them are mentally unstable and oblivious of their surroundings. They require urgent psychiatric intervention. Yet there are others, who worked tirelessly day in and day out till old age and bad health donot allow them to do hard work. The employers in such cases donot care from them, and in some cases we have found to our utter dismay even force them to vacate their premises thereby throwing them to the streets. Yet another category whose children refuse to give them any support and in cases subject them to physical and mental torture Our endeavor is to help such unfortunate victims of circumstances and provide them with the requisites to live comfortably free of diseases both physical and mental. 
 For last eight years we are running a home for Destitute Old Women at a location in the Centre of Guwahati, Assam to accommodate 25 destitute falling under the following categories: a. She has no shelter on her head. b. She should be above fifty. c. She should have no means of sustenance d. She should have no physically capable son. The home was established in the year 2011. We provide the residents shelter, food , all encompassing medical care that includes psychological treatment, clothing and all other requisites to lead a life of comfort and dignity. To make them feel that it is their home for rest of their lives , we make them do all the household jobs like cooking, sweeping, swabbing, gardening pursuing their hobbies like weaving, embroidering, knitting, singing, etc. The able bodied do the common jobs by turn. Our endeavor is to provide them a home as if 25 sisters live under the same roof sharing and caring each others. We give them all round medical care both physical and mental. Our nursing staff look after the sick in a way that was unimaginable to them before they were brought into our hold. 
 The impact can be gauged from the fact that we can boast of saving lives of atleast seven old women , who without our intervention, would in probability have died on the streets unwept and unsung. The beaming faces and the toothless grins of the old ladies who have made the home for life tells it all..Other measures of impact can be understood from the fact that eleven out of the 25 are mental patient. In five cases, they were admitted to a local psychiatric hospital for different periods starting from six months to two years, till they ere cured reasonably to lead a somewhat normal lives albeit with regular psychiatric drugs that they will have to take for rest of their lives. We had our moments of sorrow when we lost five inmates, four because of cancer and one because of total renal failure. Since they had no relatives, we organised their burials as per their faiths.

The next concern is spread the awareness about the menstrual hygiene to young girls in remote villages and schools located in such areas.where girls or parents are not even aware that such a necessity exists. Assam has the highest per capita deaths of mothers at child births. One of the reasons could be poor menstrual hygiene. To understand the implication of it, if any, we selected a district where the death rate of young mothers is almost double of Assam,s average. We fanned out to three schools and found that 98% of the young girls never used any hygienic product to arrest the flow trickling down. They mostly used dirty clothes and a lot of the girls missed their classes in the period. We consulted a local Government doctor who attributed to the high mortality rate to extremely poor menstrual hygine. He also told us it is a taboo that the period is considered very inauspicious and hence the young girls makes all efforts to hide it. We decided to launch a project to spread the awareness about the need by means of lectures and a video. 
 For last three months, we are distributing free sanitary napkins to a target group of 300 young girls in three schools located in very remote areas. Initially the girls were so shy , they have to be cajoled/ forced by the teachers to come forward and accept the napkins being distributed. Gradually the shyness is fading away . A few girls are coming forward to discuss their menstrual related problems to the doctor who accompany the distribution team.We have selecteda biodegradable product for distribution 
 The impact is long drawn. It cannot be gauged immediately. We are convinced in the long run, it will be extremely beneficial.
