Friendicoes SECA was established in the year 1979 (Regn no 10188) and has been serving the city of Delhi in the field of Animal Welfare for over 40 years by managing hospitals &amp; shelters for sick, abused and distressed animals in the city of Delhi. We are the oldest animal hospital cum shelter of Delhi and annually over 35,000 to 38,000 animals receive treatment and care at our shelters.Main aims of the organisation: 1.Rescue of stray animals in distress, large and small, that have been hit and run or injured, those that are sick or have been abused or traumatised by cruel handling and abandoned pets. We respond to over 18000 distress calls each year and try our hardest to handle most of them. Our rescue work covers Delhi NCR and Gurugram Haryana as well as neighbouring areas.  2. Mobile Clinic for working Equine welfare: Friendicoes has been running this program since 1984 and the need seems to have only increased. We give free medical treatment to the horses, mules and donkeys working at tonga stands, brick kilns and construction sites in and around Delhi, Ballabgarh, Faridabad, Vrindavan, Mathura, Jewar, Tappal, Bharatpur and Agra. We build shade shelters and provide water troughs to give them relief and prevent dehydration, as well as perform surgeries in the field. In winter we distribute blankets and keens (small mattresses) to protect the backs of the equines during the brick making season. We minister to over 2500 equines free of cost.3. Spay / Neuter of Stray Dogs and Cats:  Friendicoes runs eight Spay / Neuter units in Delhi at Telangpur Kotla, (South West Delhi) Ghazipur (East Delhi) and Bijwasan (South and Central Delhi) as well as a sterilization / vaccination unit in Gurugram Haryana, a spay / neuter unit in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar islands, a spay neuter unit it Kanpur and another one in Noida and Greater Noida.  We have always supported sterilization as the humane way of controlling the stray animal population and advocated mass vaccination as a measure for controlling rabies. Currently Friendicoes performs around 4000 spay neuters each month or 48000 per annum.4. Cat Shelter: Friendicoes has a Cat shelter cum clinic with over a 130 cats in its care and has currently initiated a dedicated cat sterilization and vaccination project with a small post operation facility at its city shelter cum clinic. 4. Lifetime Care Sanctuary for all animals: Friendicoes has an animal sanctuary located in Gurgaon. Currently we have over 1500 animals in our care, which includes cats, dogs, donkeys, mules, and horses at this lifetime care sanctuary. 5. Adoption Homes: Friendicoes has three adoption centres where the animals that have healed are taken so that people can come and interact with them and hopefully adopt them rather than buy pets. 5. Compassion Education &amp; Public Awareness: We attempt to educate the public on compassion and to adopt rescued and abandoned dogs rather than purchase pedigreed dogs; and educate children about responsible pet ownership. Our school programmes strive to make kids more compassionate. We run specific programmes called “Mutthi Bhar Jeevan” where the children bring one fistful of rice and dal to school and put it in a box. The class then donates the collected grains to Friendicoes to feed rescued animals. The programme has been very successful in several schools of Delhi.                                                                                                                                            6. Sustainability: Our model for long term sustainability is a paid surgery and clinic with a diagnostic path lab at the Delhi city shelter as well as at the new hospital being constructed at Gopalpur Gurugram, Haryana which provides affordable healthcare to people from low income groups for their pets as well as the stray animals brought in by people who feed them and takes care of them. We also wish to avail of Corporate funding in a more organized way and we will continue to develop our long time individual donors and various foundations we have been associated with.

COVID has not just disrupted human lives, but also of the voiceless animals we share our space with. Earlier the strays had to deal with cruelty cases but now they are also going hungry. Animal cruelty cases have increased due to misconceptions of Covid 19 being spread through stray animals but many pets have also been abandoned for the same reason. There has also been an increase in aggression as the dog’s security of food is threatened. Not only have street vendors, hawkers, restaurant owners and meat shops stoped feeding stray dogs and cats so have the few regular feeders in Delhi. The uncertainty of lockdown, layoffs and pay cuts have left people financially insecure and unstable and has put philanthropy on the back burner due to which the stray animals have been adversely affected. 
 Friendicoes started street feeding programs much before the lockdown and Covid 19 Initially, we used to feed 300 stray dogs and cats of Netaji Nagar as part of our regular feeding program much before the lockdown but now we also took on the onus of feeding 2700 strays of Delhi as they had no nowhere to go. Despite being short of staff and tending to urgent medical cases, we are continuing with the feeding program. It takes only Rs. 40 to feed one dog/cat. While this amount may seem insignificant to you, it helps a dog/cat get through one more day without going hungry. We would also like to combine the feeding component with sterilisation and ARV (Anti Rabies Vaccination) as Delhi has a stray dog population of 1.9 lacs as reported in a census conducted in 2019. There is a direct relationship between rabies and sterilization. Rabies once contracted there is no cure. India is one of the few countries where rabies is endemic. According to WHO, there are 25,000 - 36,000 reported deaths annually. If the ABC program is carried out resolutely and efficiently then rabies can be phased out eventually. There is a great deal of cruelty simply because of overpopulation of stray animals. Man-animal conflict can be reduced by controlling population of stray animals. Overcrowding of stray animals is the biggest problem leading to man animal conflict especially in public areas. Once we control stray animal population, conflict reduces, aggression reduces and consequently rabies also reduces. In South and Central Delhi there have been no incidents of rabies in last 5-10 years only because of a methodically and efficiently carried out ABC program and annual rabies camps.  
 Healthy and well fed strays, lower dog aggression, lesser man-animal conflict, reduced stray dog population and eventual eradication of rabies if conducted in a methodical manner. According to a census conducted in 2019, 1.9 lacs of stray dog population was reported as against the census count of 6.5 lacs in 2006. 4,05,000 meals will be fed to 2700 strays over 5 months and 2700 stray dogs will be sterilised and given ARV by end of December 2020.
