“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. I had even seen my friend’s 15-year-old sister and 70-year-old grandmother being forced to do sex work for the price of a cup of tea”, recalls Girish. “I started by merely feeding and teaching children of sex workers initially with the intention of giving them some respite from the horrors of life of abuse in red-light areas. Hariraj Charitable Trust (HCT) works on issues of Gender, education, agriculture, and a healthy environment. Our focus is on providing equal chances for business, education, and health to the youth of the unorganised sector, women, children, and economically deprived communities. We are also joined with activities like natural resources management and agriculture. Our main strength lies in our experienced team thus we can implement our program successfully from the grassroots.This organisation was established in 1993 by the collective efforts of a social worker Mr Nayan Gandhi and his friends. At that time, it was decided to work according to the ideas and vision of the founders for the purpose of the improvement of people's conditions. As per it, the organisation started its work of primary education and reproductive and child health program. We are working on a livelihood program. HCT was involved in past activities like; skill development training, capacity-building of “Gram Sanjivni Samiti”, construction of houses for Agariya who are living in peripheral areas of the sea, renovation of historical places, educational research, and formation of SHGs for self-employment. Now the organisation has running activities of Agriculture Extension Services, Gender Education and Centre for Learning Assistance.

It is everyone’s responsibility.” — Ban Ki-moons<ol><li>Nearly 1 in 3 or 30% of women have been subjected to violence.</li><li>Violence against women remains a major global public health and women’s health threat during emergencies. Covid-19 has brought up many instances across various geographies where women have faced this threat of violence.</li><li>Gender inequality and norms on the acceptability of violence against women are a root cause of violence against women.</li><li>One of the important aspects while we focus on Violence against women/women empowerment is the need for meaningful engagement of men and boys to advance gender equality and equity. This is essential for holistic development and advancement as a society which ultimately drills down to advancement of communities and families at ground level.</li><li>This requires a firm understanding and grooming of future men who are boys today. They need to be effectively engaged to bring about the desired gender equity. Not all men are part of the problem but all of them can be part of the solution, to bring about a behavioral change leading to equality and equity. </li><li>All these factors have made it all the more important to the work towards addressing this area.</li></ol> 
 Equal Community Foundation (ECF) works in the area of educating boys, has a model and wants to scale it and spread this message widely, Hariraj has good reach locally, experience in this domain, so this works well for both to address the issue of women empowerment, gender equity, gender equality through the medium of educating the mindset of young boys.This collaboration ECF in academics and Hariraj with implementation - as a team will help to attain the behavioural change in young boys. The aim is to bring an understanding in young boys to take a stand for themselves while not accepting gender discrimination and Violence against women.Objectives<ol><li>Focusing on only rural geographic - to develop better society for girl child and women (where certain factors like low level education, harmful use of alcohol, child maltreatment etc. play a major role in violence against women)</li><li>To provide emotional support to young boys in their sensitive age - To mould their behavior, understanding and mindset through various activities and program.</li><li>To develop the society which is gender equitable instead of male dominant</li><li>To know and resolve the issues and discriminations of society that people are facing in rural.</li><li>Transformation into the society, from the individual to the family, small groups and into the society.</li></ol>Project Activities: Foundation Course - 15 module - 4 months and Action for Equality - 15 modules - 4 months•1st month = training of staff, material development, and selection of the boys• From the month 2nd to 5th = Phase 1 foundation course will be implemented (15 module)• 6th month = Graduation process (Analysis and evaluation of the program, Boys will be selected for second phase)• From the month 7th to 10th = Action for Equality course will be implimented (15 module)• 11th month = = Graduation process (Analysis and evaluation of the program) 
 Targeting to educate 560 boys through this program in 10 month spanCreating a team to spread this awareness and act as a catalyst towards bringing the change of gender equity.Transformation into the rural society will be possible with these baby steps, from the individual to the family, small groups and into the society.Creation of a gender equitable atmosphere: These boys are the future men of the society, and they are going to be messengers, leaders who will shape the upcoming time and generation.Result will be qualitative not quantitative (Change in behavioural aspect)Gender based discrimination can be reduced.To build a society where gender equality is a norm, working with only women is not the solution and doesn't help as a holistic approach. Participation from men and boys is one of the aspects that must be taken into consideration and can't be ignored.However, working with boys towards developing thoughts, attitude, behavior and approach towards girls and women is a change evoking step. This helps to shape their minds to be able to take a stand of their own, develop an understanding of the prevalence of gender based violence and discrimination against women, the participants probe deeper into social issues pertaining to gender in their communities. They are driven towards finding solutions through collaborations with women and girls.

Gender Equitable Boys

Agriculture is the base of any industries in the world. Agriculture plays a vital role in India's economy. 54.6% of the total workforce is engaged in agricultural and allied sector activities (Census 2011) and accounts for 17.8% of the country's Gross Value Added (GVA) for the year 2019-20 (at current prices). Situation of farming sector is not so good in current era. In recent times for large production, farmers have increased the use of hazardous chemicals like Malathion, Hydramethion, scyphate etc. Which creates worst effects on the health of humans, plants, water and even soil. It causes cancer, damages the nervous system, causes paralysis, increases heart rate, and causes respiratory treatment and other diseases and decreases the fertility of soil. Farmers in rural areas are not so much aware with new technology in farming, scientific farming, new equipment, safety and health while using pesticides, about the market and its trend, less information about govt. policies and schemes. Due to climate change farmers are facing difficulties like scarcity of water due to less rain or erosion of soil due to flood and heavy rain, excess use of water in the area where irrigation is easily available, low productivity, higher expenses and inability to identify pests' diseases in crops. These are the major issues that farmers are facing. 
 For the last 30 years, we Hariraj charitable trust working for the betterment of farmers and served in various ways. Nowadays we are focusing on all the problems that farmers are facing at the ground level and helping them with different activities and providing them training on various aspects. At the current time, we are working with 600 farmers for sustainable farming activities.  We are providing programmatic training on imperative action that should be taken before and after sowing, training on Integrated Pest Management(IPM), Health and safety training, Water Optimization Techniques, Demonstration plot, provide information about Bio-Diversity, Run awareness campaign about issues mentioned as above, we run activities for awareness for disaster risk and climate change and regular coordinating with farmers at ground level and try to make awareness about side effects of chemicals and use of natural substances instead of hazardous chemicals. We also work on how to enhance the livelihood of farmers. We are also working with other problems that affect the farmers family like education, health hygiene etc.  
 As per the above-mentioned issue and after taking proper action related, we enhanced the quality of agricultural products, enhanced the health of the soil and improve the fertility of the soil We were been succeed to improve farming which is environmentally friendly with less expenses better productivity and ecological life support for crops. By taking proper action mentioned above we get a large number of natural products which are full of natural virtues for better health of human being as well as they are not harmful to nature Farmers achieved large production of crops with less use of chemicals, fertilizer and pesticides after our awareness camp and training.
