Darshan, the founder, started Prayas in the 90s when he saw the atrocities committed against helpless animals that went uncared for. Since then, his tireless leadership has inspired a close-knit community of volunteers who make sure the animals of Surat are looked after. Prayas uses advanced technology to streamline the rescue process, minimizing the time required to save animals. These modern tools enhance their ability to respond to cries for help and efficiently coordinate volunteers' rescue efforts. A WhatsApp link is also available to speed up the resolution of problems. They also engage in animal rights awareness campaigns and hold training programs to educate pet owners. Darshan and his team of passionate animal lovers do not discriminate. Animals of all kinds including but not limited to birds, cows, snakes, and monkeys are rescued. Prayas employs a full-time veterinarian to look after the medicines and rehabilitation of injured animals until they are fit to rejoin their natural environment. There are over 2 lakh pet shops across India where live animals are traded and the transactions are also rampant on online portals. Despite the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Pet Shop) Rules 2018, illegal trade in dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, Indian &amp; exotic birds, turtles and other wildlife, carries on with impunity. The enforcement of laws requires following up with the regulators and creating facilities for rescued animals to be safely housed. 
 We are working in 5 States (Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi) to ensure that animals are rescued from the pathetic conditions in which they are bred and sold as pets. Actions include preparing comprehensive reports of violations, taking complaints to relevant authorities, ensuring action against pet shop owners and rescuing and rehabilitation of animals. 
 The program will ensure that dozens of dogs across the country will be pulled out of slavery and given the medical attention and love they deserve.Capacity will be built within local law enforcement to tackle similar cases and ensure that the rule of law is abided by.
