Despite financial constraints, she spends from her pocket on photocopies of activity materials and supplies like colors. Ambika, Chowdapur Arivu Kendra of Afzalpura talukThis librarian runs the library while managing her two young children, with the support of her husband. Many kids visit her library regularly, and she says flash card memory game and All in Bird’s Life game is a hit, the children absolutely love them. Devendrappa, Herur B Arivu Kendra of Kalburgi talukA young and dedicated librarian who effectively engages children with various activities. He also involves older students as volunteers and even takes children on bird-watching trips. He shares that the Early Bird materials have been essential in keeping the children interested. Vijaylakshmi, Sarasamba Arivu Kendra of Aland talukA young librarian who has to overcome challenges like power shortages and no funding for printouts. She makes the children play games like Bird Bingo, Flashcard games, and bird-watching activities in her sessions.

Feedback Session with Librarians

Over two weeks in December 2024, Early Bird team members Abhisheka and Tanmaye trained 350 master trainers (Gram Panchayat librarians and district training coordinators) at the State Institutes of Rural Development (SIRD) in Mysore, Dharwad, and Kalburgi districts. This second phase of training focused on outdoor activities designed to engage with nature and teach practical, child-friendly approaches like bird games, nature journaling, birdwatching, and monitoring common birds. The trained master trainers will be working with other librarians across Karnataka’s 6,000 Gram Panchayat libraries, spreading nature education far and wide.
