To achieve this mission, Share and Care runs a program in Chennai and also a village in Tiruvallur, where the 400 elderly live. Whilst the current situation, the need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is rising among the healthcare professionals in different health facilities. Needless to mention that this demand is going to remain even after the lockdown is lifted until every individual in the country is vaccinated. Till then, it is important for all the Government/Non-Government facilities at primary/secondary/tertiary levels to maintain a safe working environment for their staff as well the patients while providing other essential services.  Sightsavers works with numerous eye health/NGO hospitals across the country which are currently dealing with the issue of the lack of PPE kits for their health staff as well as patients. All of this is causing a halt in offering essential eye care treatment to its beneficiaries. Apart from that, there is a network of vision centre established in various rural and urban areas of India, These centres are equipped with the required equipment/resources and serve as the primary access points for availing eye care services. Similar issues are being encountered by the team in order to continue proving eye health services to the neediest sections of society.  
 At this backdrop, Sightsavers intends to provide material support to district hospitals and NGO partner hospitals at various locations or districts of India. Primarily it includes the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs). PPE is a set of protective gear designed to safeguard the health of workers by minimizing exposure to a biological agent. It consists of goggles, face shield, mask, gloves, coverall/gowns, headcover, and shoe cover. It will be mostly used by the healthcare professionals, support staff, and the patients availing the services in the hospitals. Our aim is to provide a safe working environment for health care professionals and make them able to provide essential services at a regular pace. Besides this, basic PPE kits will also be given to the staff at static centres/vision centres and the frontline health workers such as ASHAs, and MAS workers associated with Sightsavers. This is because the vision centre forms a crucial link between the secondary hospitals and the beneficiaries for accessing primary eye care services. While the frontline health workers are the ones who are in direct contact with the beneficiaries on a day-to-day basis for providing eye care services and educating them on different health issues in rural and urban areas
