“We received a distress call saying that a blind girl is being held captive by a woman and is being forced to beg. Our volunteers were able to rescue that girl and bring her to the Blind Welfare Society home for girls. We cared for her and educated her. Today that girl is a senior government official”, says Asha Bhola, President, Blind Welfare Society (BWS) as she recalls how her organisation has been able to transform lives.BWS has been a ray of hope for 40 such blind girls, many of whom have been abandoned by their families owing to their visual impairment. Sadly, the care, shelter and education for blind girls come at a cost, and BWS is unable to keep its work going. मुरादाबाद मंडल में एक भी मनबुद्धि बच्चों का आश्रम नहीं था जिसके कारण आसपास के बच्चे या खोया पाया विभाग से मिलने वाले बच्चे को लखनऊ या सहारनपुर भेजा जाता था एक बहुत बड़ी समस्या थी अनेक प्रकार के बाल आश्रम वृद्धाश्रम अपने मंडल में है किंतु मानसिक रूप से कमजोर बच्चों के लिए कोई आश्रम नहीं था ।  
 उड़ान हौसलों की संस्था ने इस समस्या को देखते हुए सन् 2021 मुरादाबाद मंडल में संभल जिले में पवासा गांव में मानसिक रूप से कमजोर बच्चों के लिए आश्रय गृह की शुरुआत की। जिसका उद्देश्य निराश्रित असहाय मंदबुद्धि बच्चों को आश्रय गृह में रखकर उनका मानसिक रूप से शारीरिक रूप से आर्थिक रूप से विकास किया जा सके। उड़ान हौसलों की संस्था द्वारा संचालित मानसिक रूप से मानसिक मंदित आश्रय गृह केंद्र पवासा जिला संभल में खोले जाने से यहां के आसपास के बच्चे और बाल कल्याण समिति द्वारा भेजे गए बच्चे और अन्य संस्थाओं के माध्यम से भी आश्रय गृह में बच्चों को लाया जा रहा है क्योंकि मुरादाबाद मंडल में एकमात्र मानसिक आश्रय गृह यही है।  
 उड़ान हौसलों की समिति द्वारा संचालित मानसिक मंदित आश्रय गृह सह प्रशिक्षण केंद्र पवासा जिला संभल में 25 मंदबुद्धि बच्चों की क्षमता है आश्रय गृह में मंदबुद्धि बच्चों को प्रातः से योग व्यायाम, दैनिक एक्टिविटी पेंटिंग , मोमबत्ती प्रशिक्षण और व्यवहार कौशल सिखाया जाता है जिससे लाभार्थी का बौद्धिक एवं शारीरिक रूप से विकास हो इसके साथ-साथ आश्रय गृह बाल कल्याण समिति द्वारा भी लाभार्थी भेजे जाते हैं और जिले में निर्धन एवं असहाय निराश्रित मंदबुद्धि बच्चे भी इस आश्रय गृह में रह रहे हैं संस्था का उद्देश्य मानसिक मंडित बच्चों की जीवन शैली में, उनकी कार्यशैली में, उनके व्यवहार में, उनकी कौशल में, उनकी दैनिक दिनचर्या में और अन्य प्रकार के परिवर्तन लाने का प्रयास करना हैऔर संस्था ने मंदबुद्धि बच्चों की जीवन शैली में परिवर्तन किया है
