Voluntary Health Association of Tripura (VHAT) is a net work of sixty five civil society organizations/ NGOs of Tripura. It has been working for the welfare of the underprivileged children since 1988. This activity got new dimensions in the year 2003 when we initiated CHILDLINE Agartala Project. While working with CHILDLINE, it was felt that the basic facilities for the underprivileged children were needed to be improved in Tripura. The GO and NGO sector did not have sufficient shelter home for the orphaned and underprivileged children. Moreover, the government homes were already full/over burdened. Under this situation, to provide the shelter and other facilities to these children in need the Anwesha Child Protection Centre(ACPC) was initiated by VHAT in its Complex in West Bhubanban, Agartala, Tripura (W) in the year 2005  by collecting some small individual local support. This home got registration under ICPS in 2011. 
 Anwesha Child Protection Centre has been receiving the children mainly through  CHILDLINE Agartala with direction from Child Welfare Committee(CWC), West Tripura District and also through CWC of other districts of Tripura. All the children are studying in local government schools. A fully fledged computer lab is in place for computer literacy of the children.We are maintaining individual case files to address the necessities of each child like counseling. substance abuse, behavioral problems and socially deviant behaviors.Providing life skills training to the children leading to personality enhancement, raising self esteem, developing a positive approach to life , improving communication skills, ability to deal with trauma, reducing risk and vulnerabilities.Provision of Nutrition: The children of  ACPC are getting three meals, breakfast and evening snacks (biscuits, puffed rice banana, sprouted peas etc.) every day. A food chart approved by the Doctor/Nutritionist is prepared and which is followed by the centre.Provision of toilets, water, washing place and recreation facilities is there for the children. 
 Children away from the vulnerable situations. They are guided to shift from high risk and socially deviant behaviors. Opportunities provided for education and develop their potential and talent.Life skills developed and vulnerabilities to exploitation reduced.Some children reintegrated into families , alternative care and community.

Anwesha Child Protection Centre ( home for 100 orphan and under-privileged children)

In 1993, Voluntary Health Association of Tripura (VHAT) planned to initiate one project for promotion of community health, women empowerment and elementary education of the underprivileged children. We selected ten village panchayats under Rupaichari block of South Tripura district as the project area. This was remote , less accessible, tribal people dominated area. There are three clans of tribes live in the area, viz. Tripura, Mog &amp; Chakma. When we did primary survey as part of the situation analysis, it was found that there was not a single person who completed the study up to Class-V. The community priority was also “education” for their children. Giving the importance of community priority, VHAT started a non-formal education centre in April 1994 with village children &amp; developed a condense course to complete the study of Class 1 to Class V within three years. In the year 2000, this centre got the recognition from the state education department as junior basic school by the name “ Ratanmani Vidyalay” with the aim to promote quality primary education of the tribal children living in these remote hilly areas of Rupaichari block under South Tripura district. As on March 2024 Ratanmani Vidyalay completed thirty (30) years of its glorious existence and achieved the status of quality primary education centre for the poor tribal children in the area.Students – category:At present Three hundred six (306) children from various panchayats of Rupaichari Block under the Tribal Area Autonomous District Council admitted in Ratanmani Vidyalay and accommodated in the school hostelThe school is following the government’s norm in school curriculum, with additional extra-curricular activities. The main philosophy behind running the school is that children should not be detached or isolated from the activities of their normal life &amp; quality primary education helps to stop children being dropout in upper classes.Due to special care for the children and other extracurricular activities, community acceptance for the school is very highAs the parents’ literacy is almost nil and due to long distance of the hilly villages there is great demand in the community to put their children in our hostel. All the children in Ratanmani Vidyalay are from ppr tribal Jhumia (Shifting Cultivators) family.To provide them nutritious food in the hostel &amp; for the educational purpose we require donations.

Persons with disabilities are one of the most neglected sections of our nation.All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. People with disabilities all over the world experience human rights violations, stigma and discrimination.There are many social factors that can affect whether or not individuals with disabilities are included or excluded from participation on various activities, which in turn can affect development or esteem. Disability is thus just not a health problem. It is a complex phenomenon, reflecting the interaction between features of a person’s body and features of the society in which he or she lives.As per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act,2016, every Persons with Disabilities has the right to be provided with Barrier Free Environment.This is one which enables people with disabilities ,old people , small children to move about safely and freely and to use the facilities within the built environment 
 VHAT initiated the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Programme for the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in five blocks of west and south districts of Tripura in 2007 and identified 3700 PWDS including Physically Challenged. Among these identified PWDs a good number of them do not have mobility. They are mostly from poor rural families. Govt &amp; non-govt endeavour to provide them mobility devices is very much insufficient. VHAT, through its trained staff provide physiotherapy and devices to them. To do this VHAT is taking help from community, local individual and organizations. Beneficiaries are identified by our Field Staff by directly going to the community. We are providing the Wheel Chairs, to create a barrier free environment and improve their self esteem.  
 The person with physical impairment got the mobility and improved self esteem.
