This is an ongoing natural disaster and the number of dead, injured, missing and rescued people will be changing by the hour. Here is some information on the devastating landslides occurring in Wayanad in Kerala:

What is happening in Wayanad, Kerala?

In the early hours of July 30th (Tuesday) between 2:00 am and 4:00 am, massive landslides hit the Wayanad district of Kerala. These landslides occurred following heavy rainfall in the area and the damage was worsened due to the area’s sloping hill terrain. The weather forecast reports that rain and heavy thunderstorms are expected for the remainder of the week.

Where has the most damage occurred?

The landslides have mainly affected the villages of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha located in the hilly regions of Wayanad. As soon as the landslides hit, hundreds of homes, shops and all other buildings were destroyed and the bodies recovered in initial rescue operations were from this area.

Are rescue efforts underway?

Yes. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, expert swimmers from the Indian Navy, Indian Air Force helicopters, State Police, Forest Officials and volunteers are carrying out rescue operations. The Indian Army has rescued more than 1,000 people so far.

Every Rupee counts. Your donation of any amount will help people struggling to survive the devastating landslides in Wayanad and provide much needed clean water, food, medicines and temporary shelter. To support this emergency fundraiser, donate here:
