Give’s missions to fight the Coronavirus pandemic

Providing for and protecting those who need our help the most

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused devastation across the globe. Besides the tragic toll on human life, economies have taken a huge hit. Since the start of the outbreak in March, job losses have mounted across sectors but the poor have been the worst affected and left to fend for themselves without work or food. Experts had claimed that the effect on daily wage workers and migrant labourers will be catastrophic and it is showing. They are desperately in need of cash in hand, ration or daily meals to sustain themselves. To help poor communities through this time, Give has set up a number of missions:

To help daily wagers put food on the plate

India is massively impacted and trying to cope with huge losses due to the extended lockdown. But those without work or savings are in dire circumstances and struggling for basic needs. This campaign is an emergency response to feed families of unemployed labourers. A minimum wage in cash, collected through donations, is being given to them to sustain themselves till the virus abates and they find employment again. These individuals, currently without a job or income source, have been duly verified by Give.

To provide hygiene kits to poor families

The number of people infected by the Coronavirus continues to rise and the death toll has also spiked. To contain the virus from spreading further basic hygiene standards need to be maintained. But millions of poor Indians don’t have access to items like soaps, sanitisers and masks. This mission provides hygiene kits to protect thousands of low-income families, abandoned elderlies, slum dwellers, poor cancer patients and many others in need.

To protect our healthcare workers with PPE kits

Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) kits are critical in inhibiting the transmission of the Coronavirus among healthcare providers. It is estimated that India needs over 2 crore PPE kits. As the number of active cases has gone up rapidly, the shortage is severe. Each PPE kit is meant for single-use, and healthcare workers in close contact with patients need at least 2-3 such kits daily. Many hospitals in high-intensity states and rural India are running out of supply. The mission is to keep our heroes on the frontline – doctors, nurses, paramedics and other hospital staff – safe and prevent our healthcare services from getting paralyzed. The PPE kits include masks, surgical gloves, gowns, medical aprons, disposable goggles, hand washing liquid soap bottles, face-shield, etc.

To feed families facing lockdown hunger

Millions from marginalised groups across India are finding it difficult to arrange food for their families as they have no access to dry rations to sustain themselves. To save them from dying of hunger in these uncertain times, Give’s mission to Feed Hungry COVID lockdown-hit families aims to provide 5 lakh meals to the poorest of the poor. Each meal will be a wholesome one comprising staples like rice, daal, vegetables, and chapati.

To donate weekly ration kits to families in need

This mission fundraises for the poor labourers to access food and rations during the COVID lockdown to sustain themselves and their families. It only takes ₹500 to give one family a week’s worth of basic food essentials. Through this mission, Give will provide ration kits to 70,000 families facing lockdown hunger. Each weekly ration kit contains daal, rice, salt, oil, atta, masala, tea, sugar etc.

In the time of a calamity of this magnitude, we urge you to donate to our Coronavirus fundraising missions and help with ongoing relief work.
