THE world is often an unforgiving place for the most vulnerable, especially children who are exploited and forced into sex trafficking. In this world, where dreams are often shattered and innocence is stolen, Vinay Vasta and his NGO named Social Activities Integration has emerged as a place of solace for abused and exploited children. Social Activities Integration has been tirelessly working to rescue children from the clutches of sex trafficking in red light districts – a place that no child should ever see. In this blog, we will explore Social Activities Integration’s fundraiser on Give.do which aims to raise enough funds to construct a shelter home for the children of sex workers and provide them with a safe haven away from the horrors of sex trafficking.
How Social Activities Integration began
Vinay Vasta founded Social Activities Integration when he witnessed a mind-numbing incident that shocked him to the very core of his being. This heart-wrenching incident became the catalyst for his life’s mission. He saw a young girl who was barely 8 years old, being raped by a group of men as old as 60. Her haunting cries for help still echo in his ears. The men were old enough to be her grandfather but were mercilessly exploiting the innocent child, who would later be pushed into sex trafficking. At that moment, Vinay knew that he had to dedicate his life to liberating such children trapped in the clutches of exploitation and abuse.
Vinay Vasta’s journey
From the small village of Waingani, Vinay Vasta made his way to Mumbai to search for jobs. He soon started his role as a social worker to create awareness about HIV/AIDS among sex workers and it was while doing this particular work that he used innovative and creative ways to raise awareness about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and how to avoid contracting the disease. He brought artists from his village Waingani and trained them to perform street plays, puppet shows and make posters for awareness sessions at railways stations, bus stands, slums and red light districts in Mumbai. This was how his journey began.
The mission of Social Activities Integration
Social Activities Integration is an NGO that rescues children from the horrors of sex trafficking and is committed to freeing children from the clutches of exploitation, particularly those trapped in brothels. Over the years, Vinay Vasta and his NGO has made significant strides in providing education, medical care and nutrition to over 2,500 rescued children. However, Vinay’s dream is to provide safe shelter for these children and the reason for this is because while Social Activities Integration does its best to keep the children safe during the day, the lack of a permanent home forces these vulnerable children to return to the red light districts at night, exposing them once again to the harsh realities of sex trafficking.
Vinay’s vision
Vinay Vasta is driven by an unyielding passion for the cause and envisions a world where every child is free from the shackles of the exploitation and abuse of sex trafficking. According to Social Activities Integration, sex workers use their homes for prostitution and these homes are barely 6 feet by 4 feet. But because their children have nowhere to go, they remain in these homes while the men are also in there. These innocent children witness the horror of their mothers forced to have sex with multiple men. But tragically, the children also become victims of sexual abuse by these men. Due to this horrific situation, many of these children are pushed into sex trafficking. “Imagine a child being told that all she can ever become in life is a prostitute,” Vinay shares, highlighting the severity of the situation. He emphasizes the urgent need for a safe home, a sanctuary where these children can escape the cycle of abuse and have the opportunity to lead fulfilling lives.
The plight of children in red light districts
The reality for thousands of children living in brothels is grim, marked by a daily struggle for sanity and survival amidst abuse and exploitation. Behind closed doors, these children endure physical, emotional, psychological and sexual trauma morning, noon and night. The harsh living conditions, coupled with the prevalence of rape, perpetuate a cycle of horror and hopelessness. But through Social Activities Integration, Vinay Vasta has been relentlessly trying to break the cycle of sex trafficking by taking them out of that dangerous environment, caring for their physical needs and working on building their lives by, for example, providing quality English education to empower these children to secure a livelihood beyond the confines of the red light districts. But this is where Vinay needs your help to construct a permanent home for these children so that they are no longer in any danger of being forced back into the brothels. Success stories amidst challenges
Vinay’s efforts have not been in vain. Many children who have received education and support from Social Activities Integration have transcended the limitations imposed by their circumstances. Several of Vinay’s former students are now leading successful lives as professionals and government employees. Their success stories serve as stories of hope, demonstrating that with the right opportunities, even those born into the most challenging circumstances of sex trafficking can rise above adversity.
The urgent need for shelter
Despite the successes in rehabilitating the rescued children with education and empowerment, the absence of a permanent shelter home still places the children at risk. Vinay and his team at Social Activities Integration strive to provide round-the-clock safety to these vulnerable children, recognizing the essential role that a safe, secure and stable environment plays in their overall well-being. But the lack of a permanent home leaves these children in a dangerous situation when they return to the brothels after the day’s respite. Your support can change that. Social Activities Integration’s fundraiser on Give.do
In an effort to bridge this crucial gap, Social Activities Integration has launched a fundraiser on Give.do. The goal is clear – to raise funds to build a permanent shelter home for the children of sex workers. The funds generated through this campaign will play a pivotal role in turning Vinay Vasta’s dream into reality and provide a sanctuary where these children can escape the harsh realities of sex trafficking.
