AMAR Seva Sangam is a source of support for persons with disabilities in rural areas. Founded in June 1981 by the indomitable Padma Shri S. Ramakrishnan, this organization has transcended barriers, redefined possibilities, and sowed the seeds of equality and empowerment across all ages and disabilities. Amar Seva Sangam’s foundational philosophy revolves around the creation of a centralized resource center for the holistic development of physically and mentally challenged individuals. 

What started as a humble initiative to support five rural children under a thatched roof has now blossomed into a comprehensive ecosystem that spans across thousands of lives. The founders’ journey

Ramakrishnan’s personal journey laid the foundation for Amar Seva Sangam. His own experience of enduring a life-altering spinal injury during a naval recruitment exercise in 1975 left him quadriplegic. Instead of succumbing to despair, Ramakrishnan channeled his adversity into an opportunity to uplift others facing similar challenges. His visionary leadership has since been the driving force behind the organization’s relentless pursuit of a society where equality reigns supreme, regardless of physical or mental limitations. Central to Amar Seva Sangam’s evolution is the equally inspiring figure of CA S. Sankara Raman, the NGO’s Secretary. Diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy and bound to a wheelchair, Sankara Raman’s entry into the organization in 1992 marked a pivotal moment. Leaving behind a thriving career as a Chartered Accountant in Chennai, he chose to dedicate his talents and skills to the service of those in need. His resilience and determination have been instrumental in shaping the organization’s trajectory and amplifying its impact.

Notably, their vocational training center not only imparts skills but also nurtures confidence and self-esteem, transforming beneficiaries into contributing members of society.
