Top 6 NGOs working to protect the underprivileged from Coronavirus

With COVID-19 (Coronavirus) being declared a global pandemic, we are taking all precautionary measures to stop the virus from spreading. Along with safeguarding and sanitising our environment, we at Give have joined hands with our NGO partners who are trying to protect the underprivileged from this deadly flu.

Here’s a list of the NGOs who are currently helping the underserved fight the virus:

Rapid Response

They aim to distribute Safety and Hygiene Kits to 6,000 underprivileged families across India, or about 30,000 people including children and the elderly. Each kit costs ₹600 and includes soap, sanitiser, mask, Dettol, phenol and handkerchiefs – donate here.

CRY

They are putting together a personal hygiene kit that’ll be distributed to each family in the communities they serve across India. This will include a liquid hand wash, 2 hand wash soaps, 5 face masks and an information brochure (basis the guidelines issued by WHO and MOHFW) that explains preventive measures which need to be followed – donate here.

Dakshas

Our elders being most prone to the virus, this NGO partner is providing nursing, hygiene and medical services to seniors across 10 old age homes, including 45 bed-ridden and abandoned elderly. They also provide on-call medical facilities to almost 30 other old age homes – donate here.

Charutar Arogya Mandal

Provides medical and nutritional care to cancer patients who are already immunocompromised. They will be distributing sanitation kits (masks, sanitisers etc) to the patient and their families along with spreading awareness and relief for the poor and the elderly – donate here.

St Judes Childcare Centre India

To protect underprivileged child cancer patients from catching Coronavirus, St Judes Childcare Centres India is taking all measures to stop the spread of the virus. They are distributing disposable masks and also placing Sterilium at their Mumbai location for the use of around 165 patient families – donate here.

HelpAge India

People of all ages can be infected by the new coronavirus (2019-nCoV). However, the elderly appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus. They are more likely to suffer from underlying conditions that hinder the body’s ability to cope with and recover from illness. Hence it is imperative to ensure adequate precautions are taken to protect older persons from contracting the disease. To combat this issue, HelpAge India is distributing protective kits comprising masks, sanitizer, tissues, and liquid hand wash – donate here.

In these distressing times, along with practising all the required hygiene standards and social distancing, let us also spare a thought for the underprivileged. They have no access to hygiene kits and very limited awareness. Help these NGOs in their mission to stop the virus from spreading and help the underserved combat Coronavirus.
