A Himalayan dream

Have you ever wondered what you’d like to do after your children grow older and you retire?

I’ve always thought I’d move away from the bustle of the city to a little cottage by the mountains and enjoy the peaceful afternoons and starry night skies.

A man called G. K. Swami had a pretty similar dream. He retired from Mumbai, and with his wife, moved to a little town at the foothills of the Himalayas. She would cook and he would clean the vessels–that was the plan. But life had something else in store for him

When Swami’s neighbours discovered that he was an Economist from the big city, they asked him to use his knowledge to educate their children. He agreed because he thought it would be a good use of his time. What began with 4 children on a verandah 20 years ago, is now a full-fledged CBSE school that teaches over 400 impoverished kids! A firm believer in giving back to the community, he felt that if each wealthy person could sponsor a child, the future of our country would be much brighter. He also started the Purkal Youth Development Society with the aim of improving the employability of the youth in the region.

Now, whenever I think of the future, I feel a little more hopeful. Who knows what incredible things lie ahead! Perhaps one day, you or I will put a whole town on the map too. We at Give urge you to do your part. Sponsor a child and enable him/her to pursue their dreams.
