Why You Should Make Giving a Habit

Think about some of your greatest accomplishments. Getting your dream job. Feeling healthy and fit after a period of committed workouts. Being able to afford that trip you have always wanted to take. What’s something they all have in common?

They take time to accomplish. And usually involve a great deal of effort.

That’s the thing about changethe most powerful changes don’t happen overnight. They come together bit by bit over a period of time.

Just as changing the story of millions of malnourished children and illiterate adults will take time. Just as changing the story of poverty in India will take time—and commitment —from us.

The easiest way to become a part of this change is by giving. If each of us commits to giving regularly, the communities around us will evolve to make this a habit. Monthly giving is the easiest way to step into the habit. It gives you a way to become deeply involved in and do your bit for a cause that’s close to your heart.

You don’t have to wait until you have a large sum to start. You can start where you are and give what you can.

The little that you give can become food for a child throughout their growing years. It can become an education and in turn, a shot at a better life for a little girl. It can become rations and dignity of life for a poor elderly person for the rest of their days.

Ever since we launched our monthly giving product, we’ve heard some heartwarming accounts of people who’ve made giving their good habit. Suhel Banerjee from Asansol, West Bengal who currently lives in Seattle is one such donor and we caught up with him today on his giving journey.

Could you tell us a little about yourself and how you started giving to those in need?

I’m Suhel Banerjee. I work as a product manager at Amazon. About a year ago, I decided that I wanted to do my bit to give back to the society.  I was serious about my giving and wanted to know that it was going to a trustworthy NGO. I first started giving to Akshaya Patra as it was a well-known and reliable organisation that did wonderful work for children across the country.

So how did you come across GiveIndia?

A few months ago, a friend told me about GiveIndia and how it makes the whole process of finding and supporting causes really easy. The GiveAssured promise of extensive verifications and checks made me feel secure about donating on the platform. Since I was already familiar with Akshaya Patra, I first opted to give to Mission 10 Million Meals. Providing food to hungry children is such a basic but necessary thing that could create change on so many levels. Since then, I’ve also subscribed to the Help Her Fight Back campaign and Snehalaya’s program to support the living expenses of orphans

Why did you choose to give monthly? Do you think monthly giving makes sense for a donor?

I wanted to make giving a regular part of my life. I was excited to know that GiveIndia makes this possible in such a simple way with monthly subscriptions. It took me no time to explore the website and find exactly what I was looking for.

The automated process of monthly giving is great for donors like me who want to commit to the act. We can make a difference for a cause we care about by just giving a little every month. It’s incredible how that much can amount to a lot over time!
